Powerful message sent from a white woman 2 her black friend
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 10:44 PM by angee_is_mad
A (white)girlfriend of mine who moved to Ohio from NC sent me this power point.

If you look at Linda's bio you would think she would fit a stereotypical republican. She is a white woman who is originally from Texas and comes from a military family and was in the Air force. She is working class and is not a progressive. She actually tend to learn more right than left. Her boyfriend is a southern Vietnam vet whose family still calls Blacks colored.

Linda knew I was an Obama supporter and is working on his campaign. We just never had that conversation during the primaries. Well last week she came down to NC to visit and guess what? She is voting for Obama and her bf is also. Her parents are voting for Obama and she said she didn't know anyone who was voting for mcsame. Her reasons are as follows:
1.sarah palin is stupid
2.john mcsame is too old
3.voting for mcsame would make miss. sarah president and she's STUPID!
4.republicans can't fix a mess they created
5.Obama would help to unify this country
6. other countries would respect us again
7. sarah palin is a fucking IDIOT

Rick's (boyfriend)reasons for voting for Obama is as follows:
1. mcsame is too old
2. I was in Vietnam and that old man don't need to be by that red bottom
3.Obama would help the working and middle class and we are hurting

Well today I checked my email and she sent me this beautiful power point and I wanted to share it with DUers.

Oh, the reason why I mentioned race in the subject is because there is so much about white women not voting for Obama and feeling some type of kinship with sarah.
Linda and Ricks is proof, "Don't Believe the HYPE."

1. It just goes to your email, but of course, we can't see the message.
I'd like to see it, if you can figure out how to upload the file to the internet though....but not sure where to tell you to upload it.

3. this is the opportunity. i read a thread off what chris rock was saying and focus on those dems
that wont vote for a black. when focused on that, we are missing the beautiful and postive and awesome stories of all those that would never have thought of voting for a black man, enthusiastically supporting obama. each and every one is a heart healed. i do not know why we are not embracing this. reveling in it. the opportunity.

after obama's acceptance speech, not the convention but his acceptance speech as nominee, i was in the library. (i live in amarillo texas). this woman in her 60's was in line. country club, well educated, i am sure repug all her life, put together perfectly holding an obama book. i saw that and so surprised i say, so you are reading his book. she looks at me so seriously and says, ... did you hear him, did you hear his speech. i did, i told her. pretty awesome.

this woman would never have thought of picking up that book, but after listening to him, she went to the library to get that book

a wonderful opportunity.... to heal.

this is so historically wonderful

my favorite part of it all is seeing crowds after crowds so full of african americans. a good couple months ago i told my boys i knew, intellectually i knew, but i didnt realize how disconnected our black community has always been in our political system, yet now... now they have a chance to really be a part of it. it floored me. and i thank for that opportunity. for this nation. we need this so bad. and it looks like we will get it.

thanks for your story. i love hearing them

4. Thanks angee! Love the personal stories..
And this is an encouraging one.

There's always going to be racists but we're going to outnumber them.
