This HAS to be McCain's last ditch effort!
If this bailout stunt doesn't get him the votes he needs... where does he go from there? He can't throw any more out of the blue crap at the country. If they don't buy his schtick this time, they never will again.

I'd like to hope most people see this as a political stunt, at least where it matters. Hell, McCain's ads are still running in all the swing states! That's got to tell the voters SOMETHING after McCain claimed he was "suspending" his campaign.

This seems like an all or nothing move. The ultimate hail Mary pass. If it doesn't work, I'm pretty sure McCain is screwed. If it DOES work, I still don't think we're screwed. It will just be a harder run to November.

1. It is over for McLame
I am still calling for a Democratic landslide with 60%+ of the vote going Blue.

6. I agree. McCain hasn't shown any leadership so far.. all he has done is give

The house repubs political cover. And in case he hasn't noticed, the perception is that they are playing the role of obstructionist. Meanwhile, overnight WaMu went under. If the markets tank today I think responsibility for that should also be placed at his doorstep. Hell, he hasn't even said he is backing the republican plan. I think that what he is doing is hedging his bets until one side looks like it is going to get its way... then he'll swoop in and try to latch onto them and claim he was the force behind the agreement all along. The American people can be stupid, but almost nobody can be stupid enough to fall for that. I think that in the post mortem after Nov 4th, this will largely be seen as the "nail in the coffin" moment of his campaign.

3. Hmm, McCain Arrives In DC, And Tentative Deal Falls Apart?
A deal of some sort may be reached, but McCain's little stunt appears to have delayed. rather than sped up any deal. God forbid McCain tries another stunt in the interim.

5. Fool "just" enough voters into thinking McCain is blocking the bill to "save" them.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 07:59 AM by Curtland1015
I can't imagine many people do. But if enough do, it could pull him pretty close, or even give him a slight lead.

9. I think plenty will be fooled, but I think this is going to come down hard
on McCain when both sides are critical of any of the plans submitted thus far. His swooping in to 'save the day' will be shown as a failure and possible an impediment to any progress. This is what I'm hoping for, and I'm hoping people pay attention.

8. They are saving "Obama is a Muslim terrorist" for October
Maybe McCain and Bush can scare up a Bin Laden tape that endorses Obama as "one of our Muslim brothers".

They always have another trick up their sleeves. Don't think this thing is over until Obama is sworn in.
