Shock Doctrine: Could our current economic crisis echo long-secret brush with fascism?
Source: Michigan Messenger

Federal investigators uncover an incredible plot involving about two dozen senior businessmen, many of them Wall Street financiers, to topple the government of the United States and install a fascist dictatorship. An alert President Franklin D. Roosevelt shut it down.

A key element of the plot involved a retired general who was to have raised a private army of 500,000 ex-soldiers; the general turned whistle-blower when he learned just what the plot really entailed. The plot was heavily funded and well developed and had strong links with fascist forces abroad. A special congressional committee was created to conduct an investigation. The records of this committee were scrubbed and sealed away in the National Archives, where they were not made available until just last year.

The committee kept the names of many of the participants under wraps, and no criminal action was ever brought against them. But a few names have leaked out. Among them was Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush.

2. People are in denial about what is happening to the USA
They don't think it can happen here and even though it is, they don't want to believe it could happen here.

3. The Bush family illustrates how destructive dynastic succession can be.

The current crisis can be traced back nearly a century to the political manipulations of the World War One "Merchants of Death", large banks and arms manufacturers who had made a killing (literally and figuratively) off of military spending during the 1913-17 hostilities. Among these were members of the Bush and Walker clans, who feature prominently in inter-war lending and business with Germany, both before and after the rise of Hitler.

In 1933, the Nazis took power with the support of this same group of American businessmen. Believing their wealth threatened by New Deal reforms, these bankers and arms dealers -- many of them openly sympathetic to fascism -- plotted a coup to overthrow recently elected President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Prescott Bush was identified in a 2006 Harper's article as having been designated as the key liaison between the American coup plotters and the Nazi regime.

George H.W. Bush continued the family tradition of treason by entering into a 1976 deal with the Saudis to continue rogue CIA covert operations the Democratic Congress had outlawed after the Church Committee revelations. Bush 43 has finished the job of overthrowing FDR's New Deal, selling out the country to corrupt bankers and the most despotic Right-wing foreign regimes, destroying American democracy.

Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:50 AM by ellenfl
i don't think there ARE 500,000 like-minded military in this country to pull it off. besides, there are enough ex-military, like general clark, who would oppose something like this.
