Palin lied (again) to Katie last night.
Sarah said that she had spoken to President Karzai of Afghanistan and he had agreed with her that the US needed to "do a surge" in Afghanistan like they did in Iraq. Karzai has said on numerous occasions that he did not think more US troops were needed or desired in his country. Of course, Katie let that go without a comment. Failin also lied about "trade missions" from Alaska to Russia and made some kind of ridiculous comment about Putin raising his head and flying bombers over Alaska or some such weird stupidity. It was so embarrassing - even Katie looked like she wanted to be somewhere else.

I don't blame McCain for wanting to quit the race; with this silly twit of a running mate that was forced on him by the equally twit-ish fundy-bubbas, I'd quit too...

1. I thought the "trade missions" comment was really weird. I had no idea WTF she meant.

8. Most Governors from most the states go on "trade missions"
to try to drum up trade with businesses in their state. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FOREIGN POLICY NEGOTIATIONS!

Example from http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/mission.asp
Governor Doyle will lead a delegation of Wisconsin business and government leaders to Mexico from March 7 to 11, 2005. Mexico now is Wisconsin’s second largest export market, as exports grew 35 percent in 2004 to $1.06 billion. The trade delegation will strengthen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for Wisconsin businesses. The mission to Mexico is the third foreign trade mission Governor Doyle has led since taking office. In 2004, the Governor led delegations to China and Japan.

10. Well, evidently
Palin, as governor, has done nothing of the kind. This is a good run down from the LA Times:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-onthemedia26-2008sep26,0,5556952.story

The really odd thing about all this is that she was asked the very straight-forward questions that her handlers had to know she would be asked and this is the best she could do? It is pitiful...

2. According to Morning Ho, there is even more damaging tape in "the vault" soon to be released. It
must be bad if Scab is running from her now.

3. Has Karzai come out and said that he didn't tell her that?
I was wondering when I heard her say it, just how much truth there was to it. The "trade missions" also struck me as being at best an exaggeration. Can you provide some citations that back up her perceived lack of veracity?

9. Well this is from Juan Cole:
"The LAT blog notes,

'In fact, a veteran reporter from her home state, Hal Bernton, reported in the Seattle Times this month how Russian politicians had sought more contact with Palin, but in vain. The governor cut funding and her office's participation, it seems, in the Northern Forum, which promotes relations between regional governments in the Northern Hemisphere.'

Note that Russia is not in the top 20 trading partners of Alaska."

www.juancole.com

But this would be very easy to verify. Palin has been governor of Alaska for about 20 months. How many trade missions has she sent? It appears to be zero...

4. the whole talking point of
transferring "the surge!" to ANY other foreign (or domestic) issue, because McCain is associated with The Surge!, is so fucking stupid. "We just need to do another Surge! The Surge!"

7. It was much more dramatic than that. Putin "reared" his head. I bet he was also growling in a very
menacing way, but she forgot to mention it.

13. The more I hear from Palin, herself,
the more odd her selection appears. There is just no way choosing Palin for VP can be construed as a good political move. She had a little bump, being the "new thing", but whoever "vetted" her must also be morons. How could anyone have thought that she was qualified for the position? No way. This is something else, I just don't know what...
