Fox News: Debate will NOT take place tonight
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:06 AM by Seen the light
McCain has decided he will not travel to Mississippi today.

No link yet.

EDITED: Apparently they've already backed off that after all and it's still possible that the debate will happen. Basically, nobody knows anything about anything.

29. As big of a story as it is and also the networks as well as the UofMS is pissed at
McCain about this because everybody knows there is absolutely no reason why the debate could not take place. You are talking about 90 minutes of a debate out of the day. That will not stop negotiations in DC.

Everyone knows this is some sort of a ploy by McCain.

There will be coverage, it might be changed somewhat.

34. Right on and they are advising their audience who is made up primarily of people who
cannot think for themselves not to watch if it is just Obama. They wouldn't want them to take the chance of seeing intelligence in action.

4. in other words... the GOP talking point re: Mccain wont be able to get a deal
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 08:49 AM by Essene
i just wonder how they will try to blame the democrats.

mccain's camp might just try to appear principled and seriously concerned with the bailout, suggesting the dems, obama and bush admin were rushing down the wrong path with the wrong approach.

i bet we'll see "formal statements" frmo various right-wing think tanks, economists, etc. all day long.

19. Which would not mean anything if the media did not cover it
wtf wouldn't they though? Is this not news worthy? Is a candidate showing up for a debate unchallenged not a historical event.

They should cover it. It is McCain's CHOICE.

Huge free advertising for Obama tonight if that's true. I don't know what tricks McCain is trying to play but right now his campaign is in serious trouble. A few more bad days for McCain and we may be reaching landslide territory barring some crazy October surprise.

52. What the hell is McCain's excuse? Has he heard of modern travel?
Obama was in the same room with him yesterday. That crispy critter better get his butt to that debate. There are planes to take him to Mississippi and back in a mimimal amount of time.

Or like the internet, is he not familiar with modern travel? Is that why he's still using a bus?

He is one putrid piece of crap.

37. ok, Obama needs to find Bob Barr NOW
so the networks won't air the debate/townhall if it's only Obama because of the legal "in-kind contribution" thing, but we already know that Bob Barr is ready to answer questions since he's hosting a live "counterdebate" tonight anyway where he answers questions in real time. So...let's just invite him to the debate! Shades of Reagan/Anderson in 1980 when Carter was a no-show. The beauty of this is that the millions of conservatives who tune in will like what they hear from Barr, and it'll help siphon votes away from McCain.

47. If this is true, then that would indicate that McCain feels that there is
no deal in sight, and no hope that something will work out by close of business today. Puts the lie to Bush's on statement a few minutes ago. And could set the Stock Market into a spin. Nice move, McCain.
