is now up in the air. McCain will propose that since he didn't come to tonight's debate that he and Obama should step in and debate in St. Louis next Thursday night, and the VP debate will need to be "rescheduled", but of course when negotiations for the reschedule begin all kinds of problems will be found on the GOP side and nothing will be agreed upon.

This is what Obama campaign should say:

1) You skipped the first debate John, too sad, too bad.
2) The VP debate goes on as scheduled. Joe Biden will be in St. Louis. What will Palin's excuse be? pressing business in Anchorage? how about answering questions on "Troopergate"??
3) The remaining two debates as agreed upon for the presidential candidates go on as scheduled on the dates they were arranged for and we will not change format to include defense/foreign issues since that was the agreed on topic of the first debate WHICH YOU SKIPPED.

2. I strongly suspect that somehow, some way canceling the Biden-Palin debate was the plan all along.
Anyone remember Admiral Stockdale? Palin would certainly be compared to him if she goes up against Joe.

8. But his wanting to postpone it in the first place looked LAME
The damage has been done on that one-- now he's even weaker than before

4. Agree. Every poll shows that people want to see these debates.
Obama doesn't lose anything by continuing what was already agreed on.

5. Obama should be at the debate regardless
While it will not officially be a debate, he can use the 90 minutes to address the nation.

13. He'll be there.
If any of you have ever had a major media event in your city/town you know what Oxford looks like right now. Media trucks, as big as semis, as far as the eye can see.

If McCain skips out on this he will be costing many people a huge amount of money and inconvenience, huge waste of gas, money wasted on expenses for everyone inolved. If he can't tear himself away from Washington for a couple of hours this evening, he will be held accountable and he better have something to show for it. There will be witnesses who can relay what exactly McCain got done in that time that was worth all the madness he created.
