He's gonna figure that "righteous anger" is the only way to deflect a heavy Obama win. He can't be all somber, because he looks half dead when he does that routine.
No, it has to be getting himself all worked up and ready to TELL THE TRUTH TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!"
He figures it will disarm Obama and throw him off his game.
1. The problem is, the second he starts to feel anger...
...the old PTSD rears its ugly head and he overreacts. Either he'll blow a gasket and melt down completely on tv, or Cindy will be sporting a new color-coordinated cast tomorrow.
9. He might see it differently. I hear some media talking heads saying Obama is "too cool."
McCain probably reasons that if he shows passion the voters will think it's "caring deeply about the country." At least that's the way Cindy once characterized his outbursts in an interview a few months back...
Remember the 2004 debates? In the first one Bush was comatose and everyone said he needed to show some passion. In the second one he overcompensated to the point of hyperactivity (that was the "need some wood?" and "rumors on the internets" town hall debate).
McCain might fly off the handle - or he might know that he's not supposed to fly off the handle and overcompensate by cracking jokes and flash that creepy smile all the time. Which would of course be totally inappropriate during the current crisis...
So there's no chance he'll belie his festering anger. He'll do ok as long as he comes across as someone's crazy grandpa - as long as he's not sedated to the point of drooling.
