Coast ... at one point. It was nothing more than attack on 'eastern Libruls'.... It made no impact one way or the other.

16. She was whining about energy, of course.
This was the spiel:

It's a nonsensical position that we are in when we have domestic supplies of energy all over this great land, and East Coast politicians who don't allow energy-producing states like Alaska to produce these, to tap into 'em, and instead we're relying on foreign countries to produce for us -- we're circulating about $700 billion a year into foreign countries, some who do not like America; they certainly don't have our best interests at heart -- instead of those dollars circulating here, creating tens of thousands of jobs and allowing domestic supplies of energy to be tapped into and to start flowing into these very, very hungry markets.

Is it just me, or is Hungry, Hungry Market a storybook Palin reads to her kids at night?

21. But Alaska extracts royalties from the oil companies - who just pass it on to the rest of us
You could make the point that Alaska is a huge tick sucking blood out of the rest of us. Like most red states they take more in tax dollars than they give.

I hope you'll make that point in online commentary at various news sites, plus in other formats (letters to the editor, call-in programs, etc.).

It certainly marks Palin as a daughter of the Nixon/Atwater/Rove school of fomenting resentment.

he made a comment to the effect that he and Obama would try to get these kick backs for every American, not just Alaskans.

17. She pissed on East Coast pols who don't rep huge energy-producing states like hers
I guess all that flap about proposed wind farms off Martha's Vineyard was just my imagination. Likewise, I guess those mountains round those parts don't contain a lot of coal.

Y'see, librul East Coast states just gobble up energy. That's why their politicians only understand the problem - not the solution. Frontier states like Alaska have lots of good, clean energy - the kind your folks want you to bring home to dinner. So if you're going to be a little energy piggy, vote for an Alaskan politician.

I think that was her point. It was hard to hear sometimes over my cursing at the TV.

8. Proud to be an east coaster
Especially proud to be a northeasterner, as we always go blue every November. Isn't it funny how she bashes East Coasters but really, really, REALLY wants to be one down there in D.C. Part of their whole cognitive dissonance bullshit, though - these poor assholes are the ones running around screeching "Government doesn't work! Government can't fix the problems!" and then in the next breath begging "Vote for me to lead the government."

Piss off many of the largest voting blocks in the country. She may have meant NY, Boston and Delaware, but she blanket-slurred DC, VA, Atlanta, and Florida in the process. She's an idiot. I could psychically feel the collective Republican leadership cringe when she said that.

20. As an East Coaster, that goes double from us.
Nope, I don't think that's going to be winning her any points, especially from Virginia to Florida. But she can't be expected to keep straight all the time, who it is that she's trying to bullshit into believing that she isn't bigoted against them when the cameras are off. Porky can't be bothered with that much thinking.

Although it would be nauseating to see her anywhere near the White House, it would've been fun to watch her try to assimilate into living in 90% black D.C. on the East Coast (or did she even know that?). She'd be fine, as long as she'd stick 24/7 to a Right Wing women's church group. She'd be ostracized in any other circles. There aren't many moose to dress.

She's not ready for any of the lower 48. I have a feeling lots of 'Coasters (and other folks) are thinking that too.

22. Who cares if she pisses off the East Coast?

Alaska is such a HUGE state that its electoral votes will more than make up for the 200 East Coast electoral votes she burns by insulting that part of the country. Right?

36. There are lots of midwestern states still available for insulting, too.
I think she has a 49-state strategy in place, and intends to win with only 3 electoral votes. After all, isn't AK the size of about half of the continental US? Vast, uninhabited (formerly) icy areas should count for something, dontcha know!

30. Well, she sees no downside to insulting Democratic leaning states.
The intent was yet another dig at "northeastern liberals". Now, Maryland is actually in the South (we are below the Mason-Dixon Line) and sometimes get called mid-Atlantic, along with Delaware and some others. The bottom line is Republicans have written off the East Coast from Maryland to Maine and only cling to faint hope in Pennsylvania. They don't care what we think or do.

Biden's best comeback would have been to talk about the wind turbines to be built off the Delaware coast. We are working for the future while Palin gives away $500 million to a Canadian company to wring the dregs out of the past.

32. I'm getting sick to death
of everyone trashing the east coast. Just check out this web-page listing tax burdens in 2005

http://www.nemw.org/fundsrank.htm

Highlights (and I'm using New York vs Alaska as I'm from New York and am tired of the parasites that continually trash us)

Total Spending per Capita (who gets the most from the feds:

Ranking Dollar Amt in Thousands

AK 1 $13.7
NY 25 7.5

Ranking of Tax Burden Per Capita (who pays the most)

AK 18 7.2
NY 5 8.7

Ranking of Return on Tax Dollar (how much state gets back vs how much it pays out in Federal Taxes)

AK 4 1.83
NY 42 (!!!) .82

So Alaska can kiss my ass. Nothing but parasites.
