Subject: Head of NOW. LA chapter Endorses Palin

Carson, CA-

The head of the LA chapter of National Organization for Women has just endorsed Gov Palin @ campaign rally. Not speaking NOW or her chapter she said but as an individual. ” This is what a feminist looks like,” she just before handing it over to SLP.

3. Pffft...Let me guess (if this is true) that she is past menopause age (and completely unconcerned
with the reproductive rights of any woman who is not.)

Also I would venture to guess that she makes over 250,000 a year.

15. As a post-menopausal woman
I take exception to your comment. I don't make over 250,000, but even if I did, that would not make a difference in my support of reproductive rights.

Remember, we old 'uns were around when abortion was illegal.

19. Do you give a shit about women who are not yet post menopausal?
If so then there is no reason to take exception.

This is all about rejection of the "I got mine. Fuck you." mentality and not a dig on women post- or pre-menopausal.

20. Did you read my post?
Honestly, you're being a bit hot headed. There was absolutely no reason to infer that post menopausal women are less likely to care about abortion rights. There are many women still in their child-bearing years that are right-to-lifers too.

As I implied is that we more mature women are well aware of what life is like when abortion is illegal; and we are the ones that can testify as to how cruel and devastating anti-abortion laws can be. I really don't see any "I got mine" issues here, except in your imagination.

Do you have access to a study that proves your point about older women?

5. I would also venture to guess
That since she even brought up her EMPLOYER - her life is going to get a lot more difficult working for NOW.

Just saying . . . She's going to be on an action plan Monday morning where if she makes ONE mistake - she gets canned. My two cents for whatever it's worth.

7. As an individual, she can endorse anyone she wants to...
But one should think of the implications of endorsing a candidate that is against everything the are fighting for. AND if she's endorsing as a person, why the fan fare? I'd say her ass is on the line big time... Especially, since NOW is non-profit.. and this is dangerously close to something to losing someone's non-profit status...

A non-profit company cannot endorse politicians.. I know because our local CodePink got in trouble form National for endorsing a local in 06... Maybe they have a different tax code?

26. NOW's non-profit status
NOW-PAC endorses Obama. Not sure if that is distinct from NOW endorsing Obama.

Also note this:

"Contributions to NOW are not tax deductible because of our grassroots lobbying work. NOW is a non-profit, tax-exempt membership organization working politically and legislatively to advance women's rights."

9. If Palin is what a feminist looks like, I 'd hate to see
what a sexist looks like.

She uses her sexuality like a beauty contestant, she is against women having the right to choose, she forced her daughter into marriage, and she supports the political party that actively campaigned against the Equal Rights Amendment for women. She is no more a feminist then Ann Coulter is a liberal.

13. That's weird
Because there are still more barriers for women to break through, and Palin is against nearly all of them.

Honestly, I can't think of one issue Palin advocates for women. Why would NOW even exist if they support the anti-woman?

I can see on a superficial level why Cali NOW would support Palin, but that's after like 10 seconds of thought. After that, you go 'oh fuck that' when you realize how Palin is so against NOW issues. She just has a vagina.

14. Shadow Governor Dude sits in on all her meetings and is copied on all her
official correspondence. Is that what being a feminist means?

Sarah Barracuda got her nickname from her eager willingness to stab friends and supporters in the back. Is that what being a feminist means?

She flirts to get what she wants. (Or what Shadow Governor Dude wants.) Is that what being a feminist means?

She believes that a woman's reproductive rights belong to the man who is bedding her or to the state. Is that what being a feminist means?

Calling Palin a feminist pollutes the term and tarnishes the achievements of true feminists.

27. Is she stupid?
The Republican mouth-breathers supporting Palin absolutely DETEST NOW and its rabid horde of "femi-nazis."

The Democrats, who would be much more aligned with NOW's principles, wouldn't touch Palin with a 1000 foot bridge. If this woman's endorsement is some masochistic desire to get some bad publicity and make herself look like an idiot, Mission Accomplished.

29. Shelly Mandell has been smoking something
Look I normally don't reserve the greatest patience for NOW, but any fool can see that this Palin bufoon does absolutely NOTHING as far as legitimizing women's role in high national offices...in fact, I would offer that it actually harms the cause of women who seek to be taken seriously.

Ms Mandell...do you not see that Sarah Palin embodies that which you seek to fight...women who advance in lieu of intelligence or wisdom or work ethic? Sarah Palin is that coy, flirty shit-for-brains broad who advances in spite of herself because simple-minded men oblige her shortcomings just because...you know :9

I thought NOW stood for something different, or am I mistaken?
