Subject: Fw: Columbo Still Scratching His Head

Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean Senator Obama, sir. Um . . . know you are busy and important and stuff. I mean running for President is very important and . . . ah . . . I hate to bother you. I will only take a minute ok, sir?

See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.

Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this, you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once!

Oh, sorry, sir, I didn't mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island ? No, I didn't think so. .

Well, listen, anyways, I can't seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be 'locked' or 'not available'. I'm sure it's just some oversight or glitch or something, so if you could you tell me where these things are . . . I . . I . . . have them written down here somewhere . . . oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I'll just read it to you.

Could you help me please find these things, sir?

1. Occidental College records -- Not released

2. Columbia College records -- Not released

3. Columbia Thesis paper -- "not available"

4. Harvard College records -- Not released

5. Selective Service Registration -- Not released

6. Medical records -- Not released

7. Illinois State Senate schedule -- "not available"

8. Law practice client list -- Not released

9. Certified Copy of original Birth certificate -- Not released

10. Embossed, signed paper Certification of Live Birth -- Not released

11. Harvard Law Review articles published -- None

12. University of Chicago scholarly articles -- None

13. Your Record of baptism-- Not released or "not available"

14. Your Illinois State Senate records--"not available"

Oh, hey listen! I know you are busy! Is this too much for you now? I mean, tell you what, I will come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, you know? I mean, I know you are busy, so I will just let myself out. I will be back tomorrow.

"Who wants to know these things?" asked Senator Obama.

Columbo answered, "THE PEOPLE!!!!!"

PLEASE SEND THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN. LET'S GET TOGETHER AND DEMAND ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS. IF WE WORK TOGETHER MAYBE WE CAN STOP THIS GUY BEFORE THE ELECTION.

2. here's the birth cert thing
http://fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

5. Law practice client list is way too intrusive
It goes against the attorney and client privilege.

As to the rest of it, has McDope had to pony up on all those types of records? I doubt it.

And for the birth certificate, McDope should have to come up with his parents' birth certificates, since his status as a US citizen depends on at least one of his parents having to have been a U.S. citizen.

16. Same thing in 2004.
Somehow some of these people, who don't trust the Main Stream Media because they are all "dirty liberals", will believe and swallow whole some anonymous email that lands in their inbox. I'd challenge it that way-how do you know who wrote all of that stuff and how do you know that they are not lying to you? It's the best way to de-fang this stuff, because as soon as you shoot one down, they've got another one in the chute ready to go.

11. Oh for Chrissakes.
This idiotic rightwing shit smear isn't even worth responding to. Most of the questions are stupid and irrelevant, and the rest have already been disproven. Just assume that anything someone from the right sends you about Obama, or anything else is a lie, and you will be right 99.99999999999999999% of the time. What I want to know is:

1. Why was McCain never baptized? Isn't he a Christian? He professes to be one, yet refuses baptism.
2. Why won't McCain release his thousands of pages of medical records for more than 3 measly hours? What does he have to hide?
3. Why wasn't McCain censured because of his ties to Charles Keating and his attempted coverup of his crimes? Was it because he was a former POW?
4. Exactly what kind of ties does McCain have with the gambling industry and the Mob?

These are questions I think need to be answered.

14. Regarding U. of Chicago - Obama was a "teaching" prof., and worked part time
The rest of the time he was involved with state politics. I have no doubt he had the capacity to write scholarly legal stuff, but it simply wasn't one of his priorities. He was interested in writing his own books and dealing with state Senate issues. I get the feeling Obama is more of an "applied" rather than "theoretical" guy.

And BTW, this NYT article details his UC lecturing days and also has links to some of his sample tests (if you want an idea of how he thinks):

15. numbers 1-4, 6, 8 and 13 are no one's fuckin' business...
I always thought fierce privacy rights were a conservative trademark?

number 5 is irrelevant...we haven't had a draft in awhile and it's not like Obama is prime drafting age

numbers 7 and 14 are a simple public record -- unless you want Obama's personal schedule from his time in the state senate, in which case it is no one's business...

9-10 have already been shown

11- I thought Obama was the EDITOR for the Law Review?

19. I'm sorry but you can't reason with this garbage.
The author (not necessarily the sender) is playing the race card in a condescending way and the requests for information are irrelevant. The purpose of the email is to play on racism and fear.

Ignoring that fact, tell the sender that you don't usually dig this deeply in evaluating a candidate as all of this is irrelevant to you in judging his or her qualification for the job. Add that you take Obama at his word and are voting for him because he is an intelligent man with your values and has the best answers for the country at this very difficult time.

Add: "Since it is obvious that you are thorough in your research of presidential candidates, would you please send me all of the similar documents you have collected on McCain. I would be very interested in seeing them. Then maybe I might see the relevance of them and, who knows, it could even change my mind."

Trust me, they don't have them. And if the response is, I'm not talking about McCain here, write back "Well, I am."

You cannot argue the facts with these people. They are operating on emotion. You can only let them know that you don't have the same emotional fear without telling them that flat out. You'd be surprise but that might actually cause some self reflection on why they bought into this in the 1st place.

I know this works from experience. I did this with a coworker of mine. Guess who he's voting for? And it's not because he likes him. It's because he thinks he will be better on the economy. All of the garbage from this email kind of took a back seat after he did some self reflection and realized he wasn't thinking rationally.

20. This whole thing is designed to cover up McSame not releasing his medical records.
You don't have to rebut the whole list.

Just write back to your pal that this email is generated to deflect demands for McSame to release his medical records because he has had Recurrent Melanoma four times already and people are worried that the unqualified Christian Fundamentalist he chose as his running mate might become president.

21. I certainly understand the wariness by DU members, given the # of trolls we've had recently, but
I joined DU in 2004, at a time when emotions were running high (just like now), and in one of my early posts I made a comment of frustration regarding a Kerry smear someone had repeated to me (venting, because I had nowhere else to do so). The result was that a number of people got very nasty, calling me a troll.

I was much more thin skinned in those days, and that incident resulted in hurt feelings and tears from me and I very nearly left DU over it.

I realize I'm not very popular here, and that's fine, but if members allow their suspicion to overtake them on all these new people, DU might lose some potentially great new members, hurting people's feelings in the process.

We also might miss an opportunity to help debunk some of the BS that is going around.

I think that we should give people the benefit of the doubt until they show that they don't deserve it anymore.

Just my two.

25. Hard to say
I can't put my finger on it, but I've just had a feeling that my posts (not that I've ever contributed anything I've considered to be profound) are usually overlooked. I've always wondered if this was because of the 2004 incident in which I was thought to be a troll for posting my vent about the Kerry rumor. Maybe it wasn't smart to do that, but my intentions were good. I know people were tense and suspicious because of real trolls. But I've always felt a teeny bit unwelcome ever since. Could be real, could just be me. I really don't know.

22. I can help you somewhat on #3
There was no thesis paper. Columbia didn't require one then. Barack wrote a paper regarding Soviet Nuclear Disarmament for a political science course he took. The college didn't archive a copy and Barack doesn't have one either.

For what it's worth, I wrote several college papers too and I no longer have ANY of them- They were purged long ago because they were nothing of importance. One cannot expect him to have a copy of every college paper he wrote.
