Who likes the idea of giving Social Security to the stock brokers?
That is the effect and the intent of "privatizing" Social Security. Wouldn't it be great to have Enron execs. taking care of our retirement?

1. I asked this last time around to Republicans
"What happens when the stock market crashes?"

They assured me, "It won't!"

4. Oh yes the joy of the stock market

The idea that perpetual growth is the ONLY vision of shareholders. Its a really sinister way grown men play monopoly with real money (and lives).

If a thorough investigation was done on Wall Street, 90% of them would probably be in jail.

The tax code is shit. TOTAL SHIT...SHort term investment should be HEAVILY taxed and LONG TERM investments should be taxed down to near nothing...That would really inspire CEOs to do the RIGHT thing.

As for the question...HELL NO...and HELLO NO

5. Not me -- this email I got today says it all!!!!
Subject: investment
Date: Thu, 26 Aug 2004 15:46:56 -0400

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of Beer one year ago,
drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00.

Based on the above, current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

It's called the 401-Keg Plan

6. They'll just STEAL it.
They'll tell people to put it in Mutual funds for the long term and they'll STEAL it. Everybody show know that.

9. Won't be long....
There are several corporate seminar posters who jump these threads touting the wonderfulness of privatizing SS. Shouldn't be long now. They are pretty smooth, well practiced. Don't buy their BS because:

SS has worked exactly as it was intended when initiated.

SS will continue to work far into the future.

The BS of SS going bankrupt in 2014 is totally BS and a right wing scare tactic.

The republicans have LUSTED for our retirement insurance money for 4 decades, and have managed to buy the support of many Democrats.

The Federal Government is the PERFECT agency to manage SocialSecurity with transparency, accountability, and low overhead cost. All of that would be lost through privatization.

No one is prevented from starting their VERY OWN PRIVATE RETIREMENT ACCOUNT TODAY! Social Security does not have to be destroyed so that people can manage their own private accounts.

13. "SS going bankrupt" -- still?
that was a high school debate topic in the '60s. It was supposed to be bankrupt by 1990.
