WTF!?!? Navy Probes Kerry Medal
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,131319,00.html

QUOTE:
NEW YORK — In what has been described by Navy officials as a routine process, the Pentagon's inspector general's office on Thursday referred to the secretary of the Navy a request to investigate medals won by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (search) during the Vietnam War.

Government watchdog group Judicial Watch (search) submitted the request for an investigation. Navy sources said the service will probe the medals, but added that most questions have arisen because of what appear to be errors in processing records.

Kerry received five medals during his four months in combat in Vietnam. Judicial Watch asked the Pentagon to investigate Kerry's receipt of the Silver Star with a "Combat V" designation (search), which stands for valor under fire.

2. They are required to probe
all accounts of irregularities. Even if a crackpot makes the allegation.

3. Dealt with yesterday.
Couple of Kerry's records from the military have a typo.

Someone typed V next to his silver star. Silver Stars don't need a V because the Silver Star is awarded only if you are under fire. THe V is redundant.

Not a big deal, even this news story points it out.

5. judicial watch rule! - they asked for cheneys energy meeting notes
look, the navy investigates and finds what? The Navy isn't about to say 'oh we accidently give out medals all the time' - Unless there is some major skeleton like kerry bribing someone to get a medal or definitive unarguable proof (ie not conflicting eyewitness accounts) of some wrongdoing - they say Kerry earned his medals. He deserved them. He is a he-fucking-ro. What does that do for the SBV and bandaid wearing fuckwits? they lied, they wasted the navy's time with this investigation, they dont support veterans, they dont respect the Navy, the denigrate those who served - and by the way that reopens the question of their own lack of service.

this is only a good thing

7. Bush unit citation - unearned but in Bush photo - should be probed.
But we know that is not going to happen.

And RW talk is leaving out the Navy comment that it appears to be a paperwork error -

not that RW talk - or indeed our "legit" media - would every feed us half truths - or shall we say LIE - to us - so as to advance the GOP.

:-)

8. There is no "v" designation on the silver star
it is a typo on the part of the Navy, I thought this was already established. The silver star IS for valor, and therefor there is no "v" designation.

11. This is Bullshit
When Kerry takes the Oath of Office, I expect this "investigation" to quietly go in the round file where it belongs.

12. "In what has been described by Navy officials as a routine process..."
so. are they so blessed with extra time during a poorly fought conflict, when the country is running on a huge deficit, they're going to examine 30-40 year old medals awarded?

seems to me this would have been done by the nixon regime, when Kerry turned on the viet nam war...

i just read the article...i see the Kerry camp agrees with me...

17. Navy probes Navy is what they are saying
Navy issued the awards not Kerry. It was a clerical error and Kerry has never been witnessed wearing such.

18. Just More Blowing Out of Proportion, Using Civilian Ignorance
This is civilian baiting of civilian ignorance of military regulations and procedures. It was a clerical error that is being blown up into something HUGE, which it is not. Not only do HIGH admin staff not know all the regulations at the time they are typing things, the officers who SIGN them don't know enough about what they are signing, and the number of little devices on the Vietnam campaign medal is a matter of dates of campaigns that fit within the time frame of when you were there. All up and down the chain of command are these little dudes at typewriters with huge binders of regulations that are DENSE to read and EASY to mis-read. It's no big deal. I'll wager that a VERY LARGE NUMBER of military personnel records contain errors that nobody will ever investigate or correct-------unless you're running for President.

19. Let 'em investigate, but they'd better not stall on it
Cause they are going to completely clear this nonsense.

FACTS: Kerry was awarded the Silver Star at An Thoi in Vietnam shortly after an action that took place on February 28, 1969. The decision to award Kerry the Silver Star was made by Admiral Zumwalt, who at first had put him up for the Navy Cross, but decided that award would take too long to clear with the Navy bureaucracy.

There are a number of witnesses to the medal ceremony in which Zumwalt pinned Kerry with the Silver Star, including Commander Charles Horne and Commander George Elliot, who later said, "We were trying to pay tribute to Kerry and the others for going above and beyond the call of duty. The Silver Star is always a big deal." Tommy Belodeau (deceased) and Mike Madeiros were given Bronze Stars, and Del Sandusky, Fred Short and Gene Thorson were given Navy Commendation Medals with Combat V in the same ceremony at An Thoi.

This is the Silver Star:

This is a photo of Kerry and his crew after the medal ceremony. Kerry wears the star on his uniform, the medal on the right.
