1. That would be nice
But, unfortunately, WAY too much to ask of him. Get strapped in and ready for some more "noise". It's going to a bumpy(ier) ride over the last 3 weeks.

3. Because that's not how things
work in running for election.

No matter how hopeless, you do keep campaigning until the end. Plus, you can be certain that everyone around McCain is assuring him he is going to win.
