Cartoonist depicts Colin Powell as Benedict Arnold in blackface

A new cartoon by syndicated cartoonist Gordon Campbell hits Gen. Colin Powell for endorsing Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). The cartoon shows a picture of Revolutionary War general Bendict Arnold — who infamously committed one of U.S. history’s greatest acts of treason — in blackface, followed by the line: “Benedict Arnold…Race Patriot“.

Politicker reports Campbell also stated that Powell “wishes to see someone who looks like himself in the White House.” Similarly, Rush Limbaugh is now saying that Powell endorsed Obama only because they are both African-American, and a prominent Maine GOP activist claimed, “If Obama was a white man, Powell would not have made the endorsement.”

2. At least we've stripped the GOP down to its racist core for everyone to see
I think it's time African Americans marched out of the GOP en masse.

Please don't put words in my mouth -- and then ridicule me for something I didn't say. We get enough of that from the wingnuts.

11. No, but I never said he did
I was referring to this and all the other racists who are running rampant in the McCain campaign.

I never said he spoke for the whole GOP and I never said he was leading the GOP.

That conversation is taking place only in your mind -- not in the real world.

12. Wait..you're defending the GOP and attacking another DUer? WTF?
The poster you attacked was simply expressing what MOST of us believe right now, that people like Campbell, Limbaugh, Palin, and others have done is strip the veneer of politeness from the GOP and shown us their racist underbelly. It's a cumulative thing.. based upon all the other garbage that we're seeing this morning.

You owe the DUer you attacked an apology. imho.

4. I knew the right couldn't help itself on race. Michelle Bernard on Hardball said after to listening
to Pat Buchanan ravage Colin Powell (evidently Powell owes the Republican Party for his standing in this country and his endorsement of Obama is ungracious): I am beginning to wonder whether Black conservatives have a place in the Republican party.

My only thought to that was: DUH! It is not flowers and roses in the Democratic party as people want Obama to transcend being half black...I still don't understand why he can't be both half black and be a transcendent (not race but the political muck) figure...but at least you don't get savaged like you are an ungrateful negro for being just you.

It's like Republicans take pleasure in tearing good people down for their independent views: primary 2000 and before McCain, Christopher Buckley, Chuck Hagel, Katherine (Kathleen?) Parker, and David Brooks. They go after women because of their looks, gender, or other highly offensive things. They went after the Mavericky McCain because they thought he liked to spit in their eyes. His reversal still didn't win them over. The others because they were RINOs.

We, as a collective, haven't been OVERLY KIND to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. But I haven't seen the racially charged language used to say why Democrats don't like them. It is usually character stuff, not racial stuff. Even when/if someone does use racial code, most Democrats jump down that person/group's throat(s).

Why does the Republican party think it can survive without plurality?

19. Maybe he meant to draw Todd Palin? Secessionism is actually treason; crossing party lines is only
well, crossing party lines. This is more of Bachmann's Dems [and, apparently, even those who support Dems) are traitors theme.
