Democratic Majority?
Democratic Backyard?

THe point is that when we own working majorities in both houses and the White House and most of the Governorships continuing to call ourselves an "underground" movement is pretty anachronistic.

6. I think you will be surprised,
let's win, gain a strong, possibly filibuster proof majority, with a receptive and strong Dem President. Let's see what happens. I think progressive liberals are in for a delightful surprise.

Vinton
Lynch merely started the velvet revival. then there was the Velvet Revolution, then George Costanza popularized velvet suits.

5. Depending on where the nation goes, we may still need to be referred to as
underground. Bush, Cheney and Rove are not yet in jail. :dem:

8. I suspect that underground is where we'll have to stay if we start insisting
of the investigation and prosecution of the malefactors and war criminals leaving office. I want to see the paperwork for all the "signing statements" that are being thrown out. I want to see the warrantless wiretapping stopped. I want to see the whole "enhanced interrogation technique" thing exposed and I want to see the Military Code of Conduct expanded to include all our spies so that the US WILL NOT ALLOW ITS AGENTS TO TORTURE ANYMORE.

I want to see the 4th Amendment restored. I want Habeas Corpus restored. I want "preemptive detention" utterly and irrevocably stopped.

AND I want restrictions on Media Ownership. . and THAT, dear, will ensure that "underground" we will remain.

9. "Underground" has a skulky tinge to it so I am not so fond of it as I was.
We can be proud and loud after this election, IMHO.

How about renaming DU the DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY?

I like the triumphalism of that name.

26. Keep the name
It's who we are.

And we'll still have to fight tooth and nail every day.

The media's not going to change overnight.

The right-wing nutjobs are going to be out in full force EVERYWHERE...at church, on the job, next door....

We'll need to keep fighting as if we're in the minority EVERY DAY.

27. THERE'LL BE LOTS TO DO AS A DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND
remember that the Repubs still control the Supreme Court, and will most probably have at 41 or slightly more senators, enough to (barely) sustain a filibuster.

Many DUers today might be too young to remember how SUCCESSFULLY both in terms of obstruction and in terms of political success, the GOP filibustered EVERY POSSIBLE BILL in 93-4, and got away with it.
