How much cash does McCain have in the bank?

He filed a report with the FEC showing that he had $47 million left to spend as of the start of October. That is of the original $84 million he was given in public funds after the convention last month.

I asked campaign manager Rick Davis on a conference call today how much they have now.

He cited the number from the start of the month, but said that, combined with the RNC, at the end of October they'd be flush by any conventional measure.

"We're going to finish this month with like $150 million in October -- that ought to be enough money to win this election," Davis said. "You know, that's a lot of dough."

But Davis conceded the figure would probably be diminished by what Obama hauls in for the month, guesstimating the Democrat would raise as much as $250 million in October.
<...>

Well, $150 million IS a lot of money. So McClone can probably go toe to toe with Obama for the rest of the race. But, from Davis' own admission, Obama has a lot more money, so the key will be spending the money wisely - in the right places. I don't think Davis has the ability to get the job done right. The erratic campaign he has run is evidence of that. He is no Karl Rove when it come to this stuff.

Obama has a big lead. Obama will outspend McCain in all the crucial states. Obama has a 3-1 advantage in newspaper endorsements. I'm ready to call the election right now. OBAMA BY A LANDSLIDE!!! GOTV!!!

1. McCain's direct media buys are from his public financing
Unless these fuckers are outright cheating they do not have 150M to spend on McCain media buys, they have less than, way less than, 47M.

3. Why is Rick Davis counting on the RNC money? Didn't the RNC already state that they're diverting
money away from McCain to focus on the House/Senate races?

4. A couple of problems with Davis' comments.
One, the RNC also needs to funnel money into downticket races so that will take up much (if not all) of the cash on hand for them. In fact, the RNC is taking out a $5 million loan to support various races to the exclusion of the presidency so it's unlikely they are going to dump too much more money into what's looking like a deeper pit. Two, the RNC and mcRacist camp aren't supposed to coordinate their advertising so to suggest that they are could lead to some serious charges of campaign fraud - something I don't think the RNC wants bandied about after what the corruption charges did to them in 2006.

Oh! And a third item. As Andrea Mitchell said this morning on MSNBC, the Obama camp has already bought up most of the available air time in all of the competitive states. Even if the mcRacist campaign did have $150 million at their disposal, they would be hard pressed to find a place to spend it.

6. Thanks for the info and the clarification on spending rules.
This race is not tightening. It is widening. Real Clear Politics has Obama up 5.3 today, where it was 5.0 yesterday. The WaPo/ABC News poll that just game out has Obama up nine points.

I don't think McClone could win if he had unlimited money left. The advertising slots are bought up. There is not enough time to swing things his way. It's over, IMHO.
