Mayor Daley likes Dean's Message
http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-daley07.html

This is also a difference from '72. Mayor Daley's father was a hard core opponent of George McGovern's and was even ejected from the Democratic convention that year.

The article makes it clear that the Mayor is staying neutral for now, but that Dean's anti-Washington, anti-establishment message is real and has found a receptive audience.

5. Are you sure Dean isn't peaking too early?
Although he does seem to be piquing a lot of people's interest.

3. IL will be a solid Dean win in March
I'm on the ground here, and no one else is doing much here EXCEPT Dean. Maybe they've already written IL off, following Paul Simon's endorsement.

4. Yet the "old man" greeted McGovern when others turned away.
I recall that toward the end of the campaign when it was obvious how poorly McGovern was doing and many Dems were avoiding him like the plague - Mayor Daley went out to personally greet him at O'Hare and welcome him on his last swing through Chicago. A loyal Dem to the end.
