Let's focus on the campaign people!
Polls, news, spin, etc...None of this is essential to our task. We can't control any of them. But there is one thing we can have an effect on: voter turn out. The more people who go to the polls, the better chance John Kerry has of winning this election. There is a base of voters for each party who regularly vote in each election. But what we're looking for are those voters who rarely vote or who have never voted. This is where we can make a true difference. We can orgainize voter registration drives, we can make up fliers, send out e-mails, go door to door -- whatever it is you feel comfortable in doing -- to increase voter turn out in your area.
I may be completely wrong, but I've always felt that the "sometimes voter" is always the kind of voter that usually votes for the side that wins. Why? Well, because they don't vote every election, something made them vote those few times they made the effort to. This usually coincides with a movement either toward a candidate or their ideas or away from a candidate and their ideas. Right now, there is this current of movement against the policies of W. But when polls ask "likely voters" who they will vote for, they are just getting a sample of those voters who always vote. Those that vote only occassionaly are not being sampled. So don't pay any attention to polls. They are essentiall meaningless. Because whether they are down or up for Kerry, what can you do besides vote?
