Is Anyone Else Still Exhausted From The Last Eight Years?
I know I am. I'm tired all the time. It feels like a great weight has been lifted, but now, the stress is melting, I seem always tired.

I am used to staying up late. I stay up until 2 am every night in order to make sure our boys' blood sugars are in range (they both have type-1 diabetes). My wife picks things up for them between 5 and 6 am if needed. So, while I've been doing this crazy schedule for the last 4 years since my oldest was diagnosed, I have never been as tired as I have been after this election.

Is anyone else feeling this? I feel like such a lurker here lately, I haven't had the energy to even post anything original. I'm hoping with the coming holidays we'll have a better look at what needs doing in the coming years. We're going to need even more energy to undo all the bullshit chaos the Republicans have wreaked. I'm just so damn relieved they aren't in charge anymore that I never realized until now how much mental and emotional energy we have poured into turning our country around.

3. I'm exhausted but I am at a loose end now!
It was a shock on Nov 5 (a nice one) that the campaign had finally come to an end. I have been buzzing about for over a year.

4. Yes, it's like a post-traumatic deal I think...
I used to get this way when I was doing musical theater... all the excitement, then I'd get depressed for a couple of weeks when the show would close... but this is like opposite. I was so stressed for so long, and now it's like this huge relief and I just feel like I need a rest all the time!

I'm sure it's a stress thing.

6. Yes... but I think it is lingering depression....
I feel optimism for the first time in years, but still tempered a great deal by 8 years of devastating disappointment and current fear, given our horrendously spiraling national economic situation....

And certainly not it this situation, where the nation still lives under the system as promulgated by those still in power.

10. I know what you mean...... Our challenge has just been to hold
on to our money without being robbed anymore. Babysitting the rich is exhausting. But in your case you have some real medical issues to contend with. I'm not personally familiar with this medical issue, but I know, from my daughter's school friends, that it is very serious. My heart goes out to you and your wife. Our children put us through other taxing medical issues. I hope that time will give your family some breathing room.

12. Oddly enough
the night before the election was the first night in 8 years that I can remember falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up with my angst under control. A calm came over me that I hadn't known for so long.

I had slept better in the days since this election than I have for so long, I feel a bit like that Van Winkle fellow.

I finally feel like we are passing this whole responsibility over to the adults in the room and I can, at long last, take a much needed rest.

Hope things are good with your boys!

14. My thing now is I'm always
sleeping..I can't get enough. It's just a phase and I will get a normal sleeping cycle again after the dust settles.

I'm beginning to think this is all not that out of the ordinary for 8 years of intense fighting:bounce:

It's taking me awhile to wrap my brain around the fact that we WON!

Thank you all!

15. Everyone is feeling that. You know why?
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 09:40 PM by Sarah Ibarruri
Because we were all on guard, on red alert, adrenaline running through our veins in fear of these evil madmen, of what else they might do to destroy our country. We never really believed we could get a fair election. Now that it's happened, we are slowly letting our alert state down a bit and we're noticing how beat up our bodies are after so much bullshit terror, destruction of our country, etc. It's like we just got through fighting an 8 year war against these evil assholes.

16. Yes, I am definitely in 'recovery' mode.
That said, I am newly unemployed (been working on a campaign the last 6 months) so I am enjoying the downtime to take care of things and relax.

27. I have a theory that the whole country is in a state of PTSD
from the Bush years. Many, many traumatic things have happened this last 8 years, starting with the stolen 2000 election, then 9/11, then the war, then Gitmo, then Katrina, then Abu Ghraib, then two of years of very emotional presidential campaign which culminated at the same time our entire financial system collapsed. In between there were so many little things, like the Patriot Act and removing habeas corpus. As a country we have not been given a minute's rest from the ongoing trauma for almost a decade. No wonder you feel exhausted. I know I do!

the Bush financial policies. I'm fighting the corporatists' mortgage/legal machine on three fronts right now. Not to mention looking for my third job this year.

Exhausted yes, and by the election too.

(Btw I sympathize with what you go through with caretaking - my husband was an agent orange syndrome chronic type 2 diabetic until he died this year.)
