Obama should push Congress to end the Cuban Embargo
Yes I know that the conventional wisdom is that it's a political landmine and Florida has 27 electoral votes. But honestly I think that if he can get this done it will be good political gain in the long run.

2008 showed us that the American People aren't buying this appeasing dictators and spreading socialism bullshit that they spew. Give the Republicans this bait and let them take it. Let them make the entire 2012 election about how Obama is appeasing an evil communist dictator. And once again they will lose resoundingly because nobody other than their gives a shit.

5. The Helms Burton Act tried to stop that actually
We tried to make it illegal for any foreign business that does business with the United States to do business with Cuba as well. All it resulted in was us getting laughed at and the President having to wave that title of the legislation every year.

2. Um, Obama came out in support of the embargo.
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 11:07 PM by MookieWilson
And Cuba did ask Khrushchev to nuke us.

Though I do oppose the embargo.

7. Recced. The time is long past due for recognition of Cuba. To the rest of the world we look
like a kid stamping his feet with his fingers in his ears and his eyes squinched shut, yelling Nah nah nah nah nah nah.

This embargo is just some anti-Castro idiot's revenge fantasy gone wild. It's doing nothing good for us and lots of bad for the Cuban people.

It would be wise to keep the Mafia-Cannot-Go-Back-Into-Cuba Embargo in place, though.

8. The Cuban embargo is tired, ridiculous policy that has been continued simply as tradition.
Obama said we are going to change the world, and ending the embargo would be an excellent start. I am also looking to him to intervene in Darfur.

9. I agree
We have diplomatic ties with all the other nations involved in the Cold War, except one. We have diplomatic ties with Countries who at one time at war with. Why do we still have sanctions against Cuba?

Strange, I had debated a GOPer over this topic earlier today...I am still waiting for an answer.
