Bay Buchanan has forced me to get out of bed!
And I want to THANK her for giving me an excuse to post this, as I've been looking for one for quite some time.

She is on the DL Hughley show saying how McCain was ahead on Obama in the polls and headed toward a win and then, WHOOPSEY! Lehman Brothers collapsed and ruined the Repubs. party.

DL argues back that "sure, but at that same time, Sarah started talking....."

"No! You have your facts wrong!" she insists.

Sorry Bay, YOU have YOUR facts wrong!!!

Obviously the economy was the OVERWHELMING reason why Obama won ... but the fact of the matter is that Obama started to cut McCain's post-convention lead (and I'm referring to the Gallup poll specifically) the day AFTER Palin's first interview with Charles Gibson and it is my belief that he would have overtaken the lead again even without the economic crisis. I can remember it like it was yesterday. McCain's lead started to shrink if not the Friday after Palin's first interview, then Saturday. (Lehman employees were shown leaving their offices on Sunday)

And I will carry this claim to my grave. :)

Like I said, the economic crisis resulted in a win for our side but I have absolutely no doubt that as long as THAT WOMAN was on the Republican ticket, we would have won regardless.

Thank you, now I can sleep in peace. (smile)

1. I believe Obama already HAD taken back the lead when Lehman Brothers failed.
There's a great graph that shows the polling averages somewhere. I don't have it, but I remember seeing it clearly denote where Obama took back the lead, then a bit after that the Lehman collapse.

16. This is the BIZARRE disconnect from reality ...
that is endemic of the entire R party at this point.

AND, the MSM, in all of its R butt kissing/lazy, washington insiderism just allows these morons to yell shiite at the top of their lungs and bully their into reacreating history.

Let's be clear about some things here:

BO had a fairly safe polling lead on McCain up until late July/early August when McCain had let his camp start to run the retarded Paris Hilton like commecials - the media spent a month and a half playing those ads FOR McCain, noting how retarded they were while at the same time twisting into being a problem ABOUT BO.

At the point of the dem convention, McCain had pulled to pretty much of a tie.

BO got a decent, but not overwhelming convention bump.

The R CONVENTION/VP BUMP (known to the MSM as the Palin bump) erased BO's lead and gave McCain his only real marked lead in this race. As many have noted, as soon as Palin started to open her mouth, that lead started to shrink, and it was gone by the time the market downturn hit.

NOW, all of this stuff about the economy being THE reason McCain lost is meant to provide cover for Palin, which is how retarded these freaks are when they are start in with their bizarreness. They don't get that somehow implying that people favor the Ds over the economy to try to erase the fact that Palin is a flaming twit is even worse than letting people simply admit that she is a flaming twit.

IF they had the first lick of sense and were going to be partisan, they would put the loss on Palin. BUT, in their heirarcy of development, hero worship is pretty much the top need, so it trumps anything else. SO, they cede the point that peoiple trust the Ds better on the economy.

IMO, that basic premise might be true to some extent, but it gets amplified BY THEM and the media when they make the false choice on security - Rs tough on security, Ds better on economy. ALSO, is important to note, the top of their ticket had a NEVER ENDING stream of quotes about how clueless he was on the economy, and handled himself like a flaming retard when the downturn occurred.

I still believe that if he would have gotten over his ego and put Romney on the ticket, this election would have been A LOT different.

In the end, the "climate" did favor the D, but BOTH the top AND the bottom of the R ticket were net negatives this cycle.

But, like the scorpion and the frog - they can't be anything other than what they are - bizarrely disconnected from reality bullies.

19. There is no denying that as the economy worsened, Obama polled higher
but it was because he actually talked about fixing it on the stump. McCain spent his stump speeches sucking off Skinhead Joe the Tax Cheat and calling Obama a socialist, and Queen Sarah spent her time complaining about Bill Ayers.

People didn't want to hear that shit. They wanted someone to tell them that he was gonna help them fix the shit their lives were in, and that guy was Obama.

He says the same thing. He says that McCain was running fifteen points ahead of Obama prior to the economic "crisis". It's just a frame job.

3. Obama regained the lead on RCP's average of polls on 9/18/08.
Which was after the stock market tanked (that happened on the 15th). However, Obama had already begun to climb back into the polls prior to that.

On the 17th, they were tied.
On the 16th, McCain led by only 1.3
On the 15th, (the day of the crash), McCain led by only 1.6
On the 14th, McCain led by 2.1
On the 13th, McCain led by 2.4
On the 12th, McCain led by 2.3
On the 11th, McCain led by 2.5
On the 8th, McCain led by 2.9, his largest lead over Obama the entire year.

So while Obama probably gained after the crash, the trend was still clearly in his favor, gaining on McCain nearly every day after McCain's largest lead on the 8th, shortly after the convention ended.

8. Every electoral vote poll had Obama ahead until the 1-2 punch of introducing Palin, followed by the
convention. I am not sure why the convention helped McLame, though. The Republican convention was so pale in comparison to the Democratic convention, but, oh well. At that point, it was shaky. However, as the bad decision in choosing Palin began to become evident, Obama starting gaining on McCain again. Then the economy hit the fan and McCain appeared to be all over the map. It was fundamentally sound. No, he meant the American worker. No, the real deal was..

And then, McCain manufactured all that drama about cancelling the debate so that he could deliver the Republican vote on the bailout, then (a) decided to debate anyway; and (b) failed to deliver the Republican vote on the bailout. He looked McDumb, McNuts and McIncompetent. Not to mention rode hard and put away wet. At that point, even George Will announced McCain scared him.

Don't analyze too closely. That won't get you the correct answer. Point is, starting with 7 years of Bush and counting, it was the perfect storm.

Heh, heh, heh.

11. Bay continues to carry a sagging bag of lies
This graph below puts her lies to bed. Why she continues to cheer for McCain/Palin, I don't know. The election's over and nobody's listening to Bay. Who's payin' her to keep lyin'?

Polls were already moving in Obama's direction before Lehman Bros collapsed and DL had it correct the turnaround happened with the Charles Gibson interview when "Sarah started talking..."

But let's pretend that Bay is correct, several of the rethug cheerleaders have also used the economy tanking as cover for their campaign failure. This is mind boggling admittance because it doesn't absolve McCain/Palin of anything. It assumes they as the party in power for the past 8 years take no responsibility; as usual with them it's someone or something else's fault.

Someone else's problem - and the assumption then has to be made that if they say the economy was the reason, that implies McCain and the rethugs were the wrong leadership to deal with it. They're good when rolling high times irresponsibly like fairweather friends. But they can't be trusted for good judgement in their part of the shitstorm. They admit to so much with that loser economy excuse.

But I hope Bay and the believers keep on with that as it'll ensure the rethugs continued irrelevance for a long time to come. As long as they continue to be the party of oppressive, hateful, divisive, backward and old thinking.

It used to be thought that progressive principles were for idealistic youth and once you grew up you become conservative. That is now put to bed.

15. And it wasn't just the economic collapse, but McCain's bizarre response
to everything. His numbers started going south when Palin opened her mouth, but his reaction to the economic problems was the nail in the coffin.

The Repukes really don't believe in personal responsibility, do they?

20. When I saw the interview, I just kept saying "Run Palin Run in 2012!"
I'd like Barack to take ALL 50 states in 2012 and Palin as the GOP nominee would certainly guarantee it... actually, she still have tires tracks on her from the GOP having thrown her under the bus completely by 2009.

As for Bay, she is a converted Mormon. I wonder how much she had to do with the Proposition Hate in Cali...

23. Oh crap, the polls were close and McCain got a small Palin/convention bounce. It doesn't mean
squat. The confidence in the economy was no great shakes before the mortgage/banking crisis so by election time McCain would still have lost, Palin or no. What I will concede is that Obama's EV margin would likely have been smaller without Palin and the economic collapse - for example NC and IN likely would have been won by McCain.
