Hillary supporters: Please try to rise above it.
You have an opportunity to show the class many of Hillary's detractors have lacked.

That is all. :)

3. On DU?
:spray:

Good luck.

(As a presidential candidate, I could not support her. As SoS, I did - you might find, going back a bit, I had mentioned she would be better suited in foreign policy and she is an ideal choice. So I'm not as much a "detractor" as some of the others that just like to hate outright. Thank God.)

I really just want a respectful DU. One where people can feel like part of a community free of bullies and misbehaving children.

We don't always have to agree but Fork is right on when he says we need to rise above it.

We ALL need to rise above it and turn our backs on those negative drama seeking influences.

57. Let me explain why I posted this now and not earlier, and not to other groups.
Until today I felt both sides were fair game for each other, and I didn't mind the back and forth between the two groups for the most part. However, as of today there is simply no need to keep the division going, and it helps ALL of us Dems to put this behind us now and move on.

Hope that helps. :)

72. Not exactly
The Hillary bashing tended to start when the Hillary supporters started with the almost Republican like - "Get over it!" rhetoric (which was annoying in 2006 and 2007 when ANY other candidate for President was spoken of). Note - this is not HRC, but some of the HRC supporters.

33. Forkboy is right
We have to put this behind us.

The provocation has to stop.

It has become a vicious circle of anger.

I want the mods to stop the endless Hillary bashing (not criticism over issues)and use of RW talking points that has been running rampant by those trying to provoke her supporters. I have alerted and will continue to alert + ignore. But at the same time we need to try and not become what we hate so much.

I want this put to rest and I hope that someday soon we can have a more respectful DU community.

I know some think I'm saying this now because I liked it from the other side when they did it, but that person isn't one I expected to get it anyways. The reason I wrote this now is because this Hillary/Obama issue is officially over as of today. Anyone still griping over it, or rubbing faces in it, needs to just let it go. Obama and Hillary have. They can, too. :)

I don't really like seeing people get banned, but I have thought the same thing.
I'm not sure instituting a policy similar to what they did right after the primary ended would be a bad thing. Sadly, it's a fine line between hate and criticism sometimes. I'd prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, but some will certainly cross the line. They should go.

38. I for one am not bragging.
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 11:38 AM by Beacool
I never wanted her in Obama's cabinet in the first place. In the senate she's independent and has her own power base. I'm not thrilled that she's taking a job where she will be serving at the pleasure of the president.

On the other hand, I had no doubt that she was Obama's chosen candidate for the job since the leaks started percolating.

Having said that, I support Hillary in any endeavor and if she wants the job, then I'm thrilled for her.

;-)

43. Thank you for that.
Being on the far left of the Dem party I would naturally prefer someone more in line with my own thinking, but Hillary is a strong leader and will work out fine. I don't see her and Obama having any problems at all.

41. I've counseled balance for well over a year now; supported Dem principles and been prepared to...
expose media hype where that was all it was: media hype...eventually voting for Obama, now...mayn't it just be the case for Hillary supporters that after months of being shouted down & TS'd; forced to eat someone else's crow & shit that this *is* what 'rising above it' actually looks like?

My recommendation is to allow them access to their expression: be free!

47. Want to know what most of us want?
To be able to log in without seeing the candidate that we supported, the woman we admire, a good senator with an excellent liberal voting record, bashed by nasty posters using RW talking points multiple times a day. That makes us end up feeling as though we have to defend her...all the time.

It's not the trolls that initiate the posts that upset me (they will get bored eventually) as much as the long time DUers I have now put on ignore because they can't help but jump onto those threads with whitewater, snipergate and blue-dress comments.

59. I agree and will add to this
I am not a "Hillbot", I am not a huge Clinton fan or supporter at ALL. But the primaries and since have caused me to step up and DEFEND Hillary plenty of times. My dislike of the right-wing lies spread here and the name calling and comparing her to Stalin and Pol Pot and the sexist crap I've seen here on DU has caused me to step up and defend her... which gets me called a "Hillbot" and the like.

need to defend Hillary on this board recently. Many of the remarks and posts made me feel quite unwelcome at times. I hope that the bashing of Hillary will now be treated the same way as the bashing of Obama was.

And I'm sure a few more would love to say something to the Obama supporters. I don't blame them, I just think it's pointless now. The Hillary/Obama issue is done as of today. Time for both sides to put it behind them and look forward. There's still a lot of work ahead, and we have two strong Dems in Hillary and Obama that have moved on. Time for DU to do the same.

80. Rise above supporting Obama?
For Pete's sake... those who are being denigrated are being denigrated for saying Barack Obama is the stupidest person to ever win the presidency.

The fact that they infantalize Obama, as they always have, by denying that he is capable of being responsible for his actions is hardly a basis for mutual respect.

Obama's a full-grown man and knows about 500% more about Hillary than anyone posting here.

If certain DUers insist on saying he's a moron, weakling or just plain corrupt then that's what they have to say. And it will be met with as much hostility and derision as claims that Obama is a secret Muslim, not a citizen, etc..

82. My point is that this shouldn't be a "gracious in victory" situation because
there's no victory. It's not a competition.

Obama appointed Hillary. She didn't defeat him.

I don't see why there are even two camps on the thing. It's all about Obama, not about Hillary. Her only crime is doing what Obama asked of her.

I agree that it is classless to torment people in their defeat, but to apply that here requires that I consider the appointment of a cabinet official a defeat.

Only on DU would that make sense.

I wouldn't razz people who love Kerry or Richardson because their guy didn't get the nod, but that's not what we are talking about. It has zero to do with Hillary and 100% to do with Obama.

And the haters wouldn't care if Obama appointed Donald Duck SoS as long as it wasn't Hillary. Their rooting interest is ugly and entirely negative.

So we are called to be gracious to people who are disappointed, not that they "lost" but that their psychological condition was not validated by events.

It's like being conciliatory toward the rapture ready because the world didn't end and I didn't go to hell...

Yes, everyone should be gracious to everyone, but anyone who is crying themselves to sleep because Obama made an appointment is pretty far down the big-picture pity list.

Being gracious to some of these loons devalues grace itself.

83. I understand what you're saying.
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 09:17 PM by Forkboy
But I didn't mean it to be a gracious in victory thing, just to be better than those very people you're talking about. It wasn't about being gracious to those people, or having pity for them, but having the class and maturity to rise above the urge to sink to their level anymore. The Obama/Hillary issue is done. This not being a competition is kind of the point.

The people you're worried about will move on shortly, but not if each side keeps antagonizing the other. Hillary supporters are understandably upset at their treatment and I can certainly understand the urge to respond in such a manner, I just think it no longer serves any purpose to encourage both sides to keep shitting on one another simply because it makes one feel good. Today truly ended the need for any of that. Time to move on.

It's not about the "haters". It's about ourselves.
