Poll question: Poll: Obama job approval by primary choice
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 03:28 PM by democrattotheend
I hope this is not reigniting the primary wars...I just want to test a theory. "Original supporter" means people for whom Obama was their first choice (or the one they planned to vote for in the primaries) BEFORE the Iowa caucus, before any of the candidates dropped out.

The poll kind of evolved as I started typing it.

3. I voted for Mike Gravel in the primary, and am completely unsurprised that Obama is a centrist
I wouldn't say I'm completely thrilled with the guy, just relieved that he beat McFail.

4. I voted for Edwards in the primaries & Obama in November
I have been voting since 1960 & I've never had a President I completely agreed with.
I don't expect to.

5. I was originally for Edwards
But now thank the gods he dropped out before that whole scandal became public.

I'm pretty happy with Obama. At first I didn't think he had the experience, but the man's a really, really quick learner. Maybe he's not as progressive as I'd like, but compared to anyone the Repukes ran, he's light years ahead of the competition. I would have voted for HRC if the primaries had shaken out that way, though she was my second choice.

I think she'll make a great SOS.

6. Supported Obama, disappointed now.
However, I do not wish I had supported someone else in the primaries, because I didn't like any of the "viable" candidates. (Sorry, but DK wasn't going to win... wish he could have.)

I hoped Obama wouldn't try to govern from the mythical center.. but it seems that is what he will do and I fear we will be worse off for it.

PS: There is a difference between a true centrist (one who holds both left and right positions) and governing from the "center", which usually involves idiotic compromises that lead to bigger problems down the road.

12. You are jumping off the ship before it leaves the pier?
Geeze, are you married? I can't imagine that you would be.

13. Jumped off a while ago.
Right after he announced his VP candidate.

I didn't wind up voting for him because of Biden.

People told me at the time (on this very board) that Biden was just a bone he was throwing and that once he was in and announced his cabinent, he would be winning me back.

Ain't happening so far.

17. What's so bad about Biden?
I know he was wrong on the bankruptcy bill, but for the most part he's a good Democrat...what was so objectionable that you couldn't vote for Obama in November?

I hope you live in a decidedly red or blue state...

15. I don't understand it either.... the ship hasn't left the dock
And some folks want a refund on their ticket.

Obama hasn't changed the destination of the ship, nor done anything but hire able ship's crew members, and still someone is not happy.

As old honest Abe used to say "you can't........"

19. yeah, most true centrists are on this side
I am a left leaning centrist and i love Obama. Since McCain was a right leaning moderate, We needed a centrist to win, which we did. Now we can get out of iraq and set the economy back on track. You and Dennis can keep watching the skys.

7. Bit early to judge, don't you think? He's still collecting the tools for the task at hand.
We haven't seen yet how he'll use them.

9. That was me as well.
I was for Clinton at first, but I switched over to Obama during March/April. So far I am happy with Obama. He hasn't even started governing yet so I think it's way to early to be complaining about him right now.

11. I'm not jumping up and down...
Obama doesn't owe anyone a "colorful" Cabinet, but I still hope for one.
Obama never promised to be an anti-war president, but I was being blind on that one.
Obama never promised to be progressive, but I thought he'd repeal "don't ask, don't tell" a lot sooner.

I was looking forward to the implementation of his tax policies, but i understand that they've been backburnered by the economy.

I was looking forward to the expansion of American Service Corps... but I'm prepared to wait for them too.

I was looking forward to seeing major stimuli for alternative energies... oh well.

If I thought that Hillary and Gates ARE the "Transition Team", then I'd be happier. And maybe they are.

Obama CANNOT be the Change I was hoping for because the time is no longer right for that change. My pocketbook points this out daily.

I guess then, that it's not his fault. I won't blame him for it. But my excitement is dead as a doorknob. My true focus is conserving my pennies, and I just have to trust him to do what's necessary, because I don't have time to protest if he doesn't fulfill all of my dreams.

14. None of the above......
.... I was quite literally torn between Our President and Hillary until the debate before Super Tuesday (which is when I voted in the primaries.) I found them to be SO simmilar on matters of policy that I couldn't decide between the candidate my head wanted (Hillary) and the candidate my heart wanted (Barack.)

But after Iowa, I found myself looking for an excuse to go with him and my desire for Hillary to win began to waver. After he changed my mind on the two most heated issues between then, (Iraq and Health Care) I ran to him with open arms and never looked back.

But I remained fond of the Clintons and after her speech the night he locked up the democratic nomination which was perhaps one of the worst days for me during the campaign, I will remember today (and the day of her DNC speech) as one of the best.

I just sit here at DU and watch the great tennis match perplexed as to why someone couldn't love BOTH of them as much as I do.

22. That was my story also!
I love Obama. He's about as perfect as you can get, AFAIC.

Ijust wish I had seen it coming with Edwards. I really liked his message and probably just tuned out any other characteristics he had. Plus, I believed in him and defended him until he confessed. I feel stupid for doing so...

And, hell no, I wouldn't take back anything. I know he'll do a great job, even if all of our dreams don't come true in 4 years.

20. I Supported Edwards initially, and I'm skeptical of Obama's actions so far.

But I think its a little early to judge his job performance almost 2 months before he gets sworn in. I'll know whether I'm happy with him 4 - 5 months.
