Steve Schmidt: Bobby Jindal will be President
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 08:36 PM by redstate_democrat

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/01/steve-schmidt-jindal-is-g_n_147522.html

No less an aspiring kingmaker than Steve Schmidt, the chief strategist of McCain's failed presidential bid, sees Jindal as the Republican Party's destiny. "The question is not whether he'll be president, but when he'll be president, because he will be elected someday." The anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist believes, too, that Jindal is a certainty to occupy the White House, and conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh has described him as "the next Ronald Reagan."

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

I'm so sick and tired of the GOP. This is why I don't understand why Democrats always get in a rush to be bipartisan with these freaks of nature. They don't have the country's interests at heart. They are all about attaining and maintaining power for their special group of special corporate interests. For them to even be considering Bobby Jindal makes me want to slap them silly.

We cannot play around with these freaks. They must be stopped and buried.

1. You don't understand. They're burying themselves.
They keep hammering nails in their own coffin, and the only ones who don't realize it is them.
This is just more proof of that. Their lousy thinking is killing them.

The skinny brown dude with the funny name is already at the helm for the next 8 years.

And at 5'8" and with a tiny voice, their brown dude is in for a rude awakening! LOL!
Like a clone gone bad.

6. I can't believe they're trying to get them so kind of watered down, fake Obama
:puke:

How freaking unoriginal and gimmicky. Then they get someone who is a far right batshit crazy nutbag. Did they not learn from their experience with Palin? I guess they figure that Palin's lack of a brain did her in and that since Jindal is some kind of Rhode Scholar, he can make his extremist views more palatable to the suburbs.

I don't think so.

61. That is it in a nutshell ...
is the stunning superficial level that these freaks operate on - "see, we have a smart dark skinned one, too."

problem is, this little bizarro won't EVER win the nomination. Not a chance in heck. The WHOLE platform of the party is based on the denigration of minorities toward the aim of pumping up the "white man." The R debates this year, 10 or so pasty white dude, their nominee, a pasty white dude ... Bush II, Bush I, Reagan ...

The mouthpieces can spew their live in the moment nonsense, but when the chips are on the table, they are going home to a white guy - Romney, Huck, whoever ...

Using Jindal's real name would backfire if we did that. It would show xenophobia. The Republicans could turn the tables and use it against us for doing such a thing.

46. He could never get the nomination, he's not a white male
And save the "but we never thought they'd nominate a woman" nonsense. Palin was picked to shake up the race and because her far right credentials were even better than advertised. And she was a pretty face, at least to some. It was a pick born out of desperation made by ONE man.

Jindal has had the misfortune, at least when it comes to the GOP, of not being born white. He would need months, perhaps years, to persuade low info GOP voters that he's not Muhamad Atta's brother.

Their next nominee will be a white male. Anyone want to be against that?

21. Here's the problem with Jindal
He's not white. It's so funny to me that these morons in the GOP who have done everything they can to marginalize minorities and get their supporters/listeners to blame them for everything bad think they're just going to do an about face and embrace diversity. It's kind of like if they had picked a woman mainly because they thought it would help sew up the woman's vote... Oh, wait...

Other factors.

He's 37 so let's say he's got around 28 years from now to get elected president. It's reasonable to assume that he probably wouldn't run after being 65/66. But since we've got Obama for at least 4 years, that gives him 24 years or 6 elections to get elected.

I've got a good feeling that Obama is going to be president until 2016. That's another 4 years off so he's down to 20. Obama being a two term president is going to drive the haters (the majority) of the GOP crazy, and the fact that he's Black is going to make them want to see a white man back in the top spot. The racist undertones of the GOP are not going to change during these 8 years with a Black man as president so the GOP will have essentially lost 8 years to try and change the tone/increase the tent/etc. to give Jindal a fighting chance in 2016. He's out another 4 years no matter what party wins in 2016. Down to 16. If a republican wins in 2016, then chances are he or she (ha) will be running again in 2020. Down to 12 if that's the case.

So worst case scenario is that Jindal, if he's not picked as a vice presidential candidate, has to wait until 2024 to even have a chance at the nomination for the next 3 elections. Is he still a rising star at 53 or 57 or in his 60s? Think there won't be another rising star by then? Think the GOP can overcome its racism roots even by then?

I wouldn't hold my breath.

TlalocW

63. Thank you for not playing the race card on him
Several posters in this thread seem only able to view Jindal through the filter of race or political ideology. This reflexive reliance on race to do the heavy lifting on anti-Republican rhetoric wears a bit thin quickly enough, leading to the stale vitriol of "all Republicans are racists & thus genociding nazis."

Not only is this not true, it tends to dilute all of the pro democratic argumnents we make after that by the sheer residual power of its silliness.

However you have found the perfect sledgehammer of scorn, villifying the vile, yet canny, Jindal and all of Louisiana without sinking into racism, cultural elitism, or classist arrogance. "weasel faced, mealy mouthed, little exorcist dude from the swampland" is a classic -- an equal opportunity verbal cherry-bomb of justice.

Jindal is not unlike the other Republicans because of the fact that he is knowledgeable.

He can probably think on his feet unlike a Sarah Palin who is just a talker who produces a word salad every time she speaks in public. But the good news is that he's a boring speaker. The bad news is that he's cunning enough to truly hide and mainstream his issues so much so that the public finds him acceptable (in a "Huckabee" sort of way).

The Dems have to fight back early to nip him in the bud before he can be a rising star. And since he has had corruption issues in Louisiana, it's time to publicize them now and make them known to the public. Those are the things that will get people thinking twice about him.

(I mean, people had mentioned Sarah Palin's witch doctor. That didn't diminish her popularity in some circles. In fact, most of the MSM dismissed it. The same could happen for Jindal's exorcism story.).

Secondly, we've got to truly work on turning Louisiana blue by fighting gentrification and trying to appeal to the Dems that are there. This has to be done from the local positions all the way to the top. The same could be said for all fifty states because the GOP starts by having their people occupy local seats and have them work all the way up the food chain to the point of real power.

Nothing foreign scares a cajun or a creole. Everyone there is mixed race. Hell, they eat alligator and French cuisine. However, you take Good Old Boy Bobby out of La. and try to sell him to the white hooded Republicans in the rest of the country and they will stay home.

He could switch parties and run as a Democrat and get elected easy as long as he is a Christian. I'm guessing he is a Republican so that he can court the petrochemical vote.

49. Good analysis. I agree - in our joy at the 2008 results too many forget politics is cyclical.
Four years ago, Karl Rove was talking about a "permanent Republican majority"; today, many DU'ers are saying the same thing from the other side.

But I remember in my youth that right after Watergate I loudly crowed to anyone who would listen that the GOP was dead, and that there would never be another Republican President in my lifetime.

Granted, I was a teenager, but that's what it looked like from the perspective of 1975. How wrong I turned out to be....

the face is different but the rhetoric is the same: stale, intolerant, corporate, elite, quasi-religious, anti-science, hawkish, military/security industrial complex, unilateralism.

they seek a false prophet to hypnotize the masses so they can rob us blind.

58. LOL! Looks like they have their new religious-nut messiah. Interesting that the guy
who wanted McStupid to pick Palin now doesn't want Palin.

59. The stink of the hypocrisy!
Jindal converted from Hinduism as an adult, and these asswipes have no problem with that. Of course not.

62. Jindal and Palin in 2012. What a show.
One can perform exorcisms while the other talks in tongues. Maybe Jindal can exorcise any witches hanging out around Palin. Then, since one is conservative ( as in 11th century) Catholic and the other makes your standard Fundie look like a Unitarian, Jindal can accuse Palin of heresy while Palin gives a speech about Rome as the Whore of Babylon.

(in fact and in fairness, Jindal never performed an exorcism - that has to be done by an official exorcist - but he was present at a sort of do-it-yourself exorcism while in college for a woman he knew).

65. Whatever drugs Schmidt is on...
I want the supplier because that is some strong shit there.

At any rate, he didn't see the Gallup poll in which Republican voters gave Sarah Palin the highest rating and Bobby Jindal was rated low, not as low as Jeb Bush but definitely in the negative.
Let's face the facts here; as long as Jindal's a minority, Romney's got money, and Palin's on TV, he ain't gonna win a primary. He might win in the general where race is less a factor, but no way is he gonna win in the racist states primaries.

He might be batshit religious like Palin, but remember what her supporters were saying, lines like "America is a christian nation! I don't trust no one who isn't white" and so on and so forth. So expect the Repub candidate to be either white or white female. They're not the GOP for no reason, after all.
