You know those Japanese soldiers who refused to admit WWII had ended?
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 08:41 AM by LostinVA
That's what this place is reminding me of lately, and it pisses me off, because most of us are on the same page and have put Primary Wars behind us. This is GDP: everyone will always bicker, or it wouldn't BE GDP, but some need to put down the sniper rifle and peel off the fatigues.

Bush is almost out of office! We have a great eight years ahead of us!!!

on edit, because I know I'll be accused of it: I'm talking about all "sides", which should be apparaent.

1. The few people who persist in doing this are getting something out of it.
What exactly they're getting isn't clear to most rational people, but there's definitely a payout for them. I want to go all Dr. Phil on them and ask "and how's that working for yew?" :)

2. I doubt we have a great 8 years in front of us
The problems we're facing are daunting to say the least.

4. Maybe it's because
it's a "DISCUSSION BOARD"

If however you do not want opinions that differ from your own, you are free to have a non-discussion board - That's the place where no one posts anything.

I like discussing, debating, and even fighting on here
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 08:40 AM by LostinVA
Or I wouldn't have stayed on here for tens of thousands of posts and several years. I would never tell anyone they couldn't discuss something, and I never have. My OP doesn't say that, but I suspect you know that already. I agree with you: this is a DISCUSSION board. I'm not talking about DISCUSSING.

5. It's really disgusting. Obama gets elected and some
people still won't let it go,we've got an intelligent and studious president for the first time in 8 years. There seem to be some who are simply here to keep the hatred going, for whatever reason.

10. Doesn't sound like
discussing to me. It sounds more like you want to agree to agree.

There will never be silence or lockstep here.. Why do people try to initiate it?

I am not against you LostinVA, I just do not understand the need to keep telling people to get in line and agree.

I am pleased as punch that Obama has been elected as the next POTUS - that does not mean that I have to lose sight of reality and simply agree with everything that happens on the political horizon.

16. seems like the point here is...
that discussion and difference are expected but the vitriol on acrimony shouldnt be. Like you said, its a discussion board. It is not, however, an argument board. If thats what you want, start one up and one rule can be that no one ever agrees and everyone must act like a total prick.

while some of the others figure out it's over.

they really are refusing to accept reality.

12. I'm assuming bad intentions on those who are constantly pissed about Obama's choices.
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 08:54 AM by TexasObserver
Obama is very studiously avoiding the mistakes that hobbled Bubba in his first year on the job. Bill recovered nicely, but he took a beating that first year, and part of the reason was his appointments.

Obama wants to be known most of all as competent. He is deeply ideological, but he is more deeply pragmatic.

13. Yes, indeed.
Maybe someone needs to drop a plane load of leaflets on the GDP like the US did on Japanese holdouts.

Note that the word surrender wasn't used, because surrender couldn't really be translated into Japanese as the whole concept of surrender was abhorrent and disgraceful. So "cease resistance" was used. That way the Japanese soldiers could stop fighting without being humiliated. Plus they were promised humane treatment.

Maybe that would be a good idea here in GDP as well.
