New poll: 75 percent of Americans approve President-elect Barack Obama's cabinet choices.
Obama cabinet picks get kudos
Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 3, 2008 04:21 PM

In a new poll out this afternoon, 71 percent of Americans approve President-elect Barack Obama's choice of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, but only 57 percent believe she will strictly follow his orders. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey found that when Clinton and Obama disagree on foreign policy, 41 percent believe she will follow her own policy.

Also in the poll, 43 percent said they believe former president Bill Clinton will seek to play a role in US foreign policy, even if he is not given an official job by Obama, and 24 percent said they believe his influence will be positive. Obama's cabinet picks have widespread support -- 75 percent support them as a group, and 83 percent said they support his decision to keep on Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Despite concerns in some quarters that the number of appointees with previous Washington experience will make it more difficult for Obama to bring the change he promised, 72 percent of respondents said they can still bring change.

1. 75 per cent of Americans favor whatever the TV tells them is good.
until it hurts so bad they fear for their lives.

4. You seem desperate to convince us that Obama is failing.
Why is that?

5. I'm not desperate about anything except the plight of the country I love.
I think he's made serious mistakes in his staff choices so far, especially on his economic team, and that he has shown clearly that the "change" he promised will be limited to style and competency rather than substance. I also think he has shown clearly that the trajectory of his governance will be far to the right of his campaign rhetoric.

Why are you so desperate to defend him and to try to quiet his critics?

6. Because I believe Obama may be one of our greatest Presidents ever.
But he will need a few months or years to prove it. Are you willing to give him a chance?

7. I have no choice but to give him a chance.
I don't have to be silent though.

I hope he is successful in restoring America's true greatness and saving us from the disastrous future the repukes have "worked" so tirelessly to build. He's FAR preferable to bushboy, but still far too conservative to represent the kind of radical change I believe this country needs.

8. Don't forget if Obama fails you might have President Palin to deal with.

10. As low as my regard for the American public is,
I don't think even they would go there.

Of course, the repukes have engineered at least two coups since WWII, so who knows...

13. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate.
Given the right set of circumstances, Palin could win.

2. People value competence
Regardless if they agree with people's policies or not. You can't look at any of Obama's selections and point to any of them as incompetent, dullards, or someone that is the antithesis of the position they have been select to serve.

Having people that are bright and capable in jobs that they understand and buy into is a hugely positive change. Sad but true.

12. Yep, Take cover. .
It can be dangerous around here to admit approval of Obama's cabinet choices.
