John Ellis Bush (we have to stop calling him "Jeb" because he's anything but a good ol' boy..) was a very popular governor in FL but his brother has ruined things for the family franchise for a while.

Even Bill Clinton who was very popular when he left office and still is wan't able to get Hillary elected on name reconition.

I think the American public grows tired of the same family over and over again in public office and it is hard to get elected based on "family name" these days.

Jeb however was highly intelligent, a hard worker, competent and effective even if he was a Republican. In a lot of ways he's the real scary Bush because he he's not the "in your face" drunken bully that George W. is - he'll slip his uber conservative agenda past the public and they hardly will ever notice he did it.

I think John Ellis will have to wait until 2016 at least before the people will forget some of W's screwups. I more afraid in the near term that he will run for Mel Martinez' Senate seat in 2010 when he leaves the Senate.

enough in 04 that theft was inevitable... So, never underestimate the ability to fool sufficient Americans... I would never have guessed Bush* would have gotten the REPUG nomination, much less serve two terms... And, then there was Reagan...

And each one has been worse than the one before, with the exception of Ford (who was merely a Nixon placeholder). Eisenhower had many redeeming qualities. Nixon even had a few. a lot of Americans felt that no one could screw up the good vibe in the country. Bush did exactly run away from Al Gore or Clinton but ran as a more "chuckle" ethical version of Clinton. People bought into it because in general many were better off and thought Bush who came off as a nice person would be just like Al Gore anyways. That and he cheated. Can Jeb win? I'm not sure republicans would vote another Bush through their primary to find out.

For Jeb to have a chance he wold need a full 2 terms of a dem. presidency to distance himself from his brother. Then he would also need Obama to leave office relatively unpopular and a boring democratic opponent. If all that falls into place then i give him a chance. If this doesn't happen and Obama is popular when leaving then he would have to hope for a boring democratic nominee,campaign as a compassionate conservative who is willing to leave partisanship aside like Obama and then play up the his Hispanic ties. If all of this falls into place then he could would win Florida and other hispanic areas. But I think this is overall unlikely.
