Who would beat Jeb Bush for the 2010 Senate seat?
I want Robert Wexler to run. He's a strong candidate, and also, it's a fun thing to do..

3. I was hoping that I'd never have to dust off my unused "No More Bushes" sticker.
What's up with these ghouls!?!

4. Jeb won't win
Jeb can't win that Senate seat. He'll fair as well as McCain. Tarnished name and tarnished image. He'll be a Bush that simply bears no fruit again. People know this.

7. Jeb is a
lot more popular in Florida than you think. I hope he doesn't run because I think he can win easily. The only bad word I've ever heard about his job as governor has been here on this site. Acquaintances and friends, when his name is mentioned, ALL say "He hasn't done a bad job as governor. He would have made a better president than GW." I don't believe he could be elected president, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he got elected Senator from Florida. Robert Wexler, the man I'd most love to see as Senator from Florida, is not nearly as well known throughout the state, and he is much too liberal to get many votes outside southeast Florida. Just the sad facts.

18. agreed Granny
I also think this country would have been a lot better off these past 8 years had Jeb been president instead of George-Jeb at least is his own man.

6. I miss Bob Graham
If his health hadn't been so bad I think he would have been giving Barack and Hillary a run for their money in the primaries this year. Remember Joint Resolution 114 – the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002? He voted no. He was THE BEST best governor and Senator. God Bless you Bob Graham and I wish you the best! Lara from Florida.

8. Umm Charlie Crist?????

I honestly do not think there is a Dem in the state who can beat him... But BushCo must be stopped!!!

I don't think Wexler or Wasserman-Schultz will play well enough state-wide.

9. They say Crist has his eye on a seat (no pun intended), but I figure he'll challenge Nelson.

That's only two years before he'll be term limited after all.

12. I don't either. Both of them have an angry bent to them. Not
conciliatory. They are great proponents for Democrats - but don't see much to get them cross-0ver votes.

10. That's a TOUGH one..
Lawton Chiles??? Oh wait he's dead..

Chiles was the last one to beat John Ellis.

Maybe Bill Nelson is the only one who is popular enough and also a Democrat but on the other hand he's ALREADY a Senator.

Bob Graham is too old.

I don't think any of the Congressional Democrats would stand a chance against Jeb right now.

I helped get Alan Grayson elected in Florida 8 this time and he kicked Ric Keller's ass and he would play well in South Florida as well but I don't know if it would be enough to win the state. I don't know if he's interested either since he hasn't even been sworn in to his house seat yet.

Susanne Kosmas likewise won in Florida 24 against Tom Feeney convincingly and she is previously a two term state senator but it's hard to see that stretching statewide.

I liked Rod Smith who ran for Governor in 2006 and he's sell well state wide but he'd really need to get a much better campaign manager and campaign staff, especially when it comes to TV ads. His helicopter ad really killed his campaign. (On the other hand Alan Grayson's aircraft HANGAR ad really worked well for HIM...once he had backed Rod's helicopter out of it..)

Rod is an excellent in person campaigner and speaker but didn't seem to know how to run a good ground game door to door or TV ad campaign.

Jim Davis was just as bad in the General in 2006.

Alex Sink maybe?? She's good just I don't think she's good enough.

Her husband Mcbride ran in 2002 but got beaten badly by John Ellis.

??????

14. Alex Sink is married to Bill McBride? (I think that's his first name)
I didn't know that. :dunce:

I'm still reading up on him but I'd maybe like to see Kendrick Meek make a run. He's got a knack for pissing off Jebthro (providing he's the opponent).

13. Not sure, don't know much about J bush...just from the little I've
seen on DU and a couple of things in the media.

My take though...he didn't make a stir for McCain, and R's remember stuff like that. He's under the radar at this point, probably because he knows his name is more of a liability at this time. Uttering "bush" these days is akin to saying "satan". With pres bush having a lower approval rate than gonnorhea, he knows the name recognition is a negative for him. Very few people want to see a bush in any form af power again.

I have read he is popular in FL, but popularity is a fleeting thing, one gaff, and his hopes are dashed.

16. No one
Jeb is still very popular in Florida. He has the highest name recognition in the state. He is well liked by both the Cuban community in the Miami area and hispanic community other areas of Florida. As other have said, most Floridian have a good opinion of him based on his time as governor.

Some other points: Jeb is the smart brother. He all know W isn't the sharpest knife in the draw, but Jeb is intelligent. It was rumored the family wanted him to be the on to run for President but he lost to Childs while W beat Richardson. He also speaks fluent Spanish.

Those worried about him running for President can relax. Jeb's wife is a nut case. She would be a HUGE liability on the campaign trail. What we could do to her would make what republican's tried to do to Michelle look like child's play.

Alan Boyd is probably the only democrat who could give Jeb a close race. However, he doesn't have the name recognition and is not progressive.
