The Clintons were the target of a coordinated right wing hit job for 8 years.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 08:29 PM by EconomicLiberal
For 8 years, the right wing tried time after time to bring the Clintons down by attempting to dreg up dirt on them and accusing them of nothing short of being murderers. It was a coordinated and well funded operation, funded by rich Republicans like T Boone Pickens and Richard Mellon Scaiffe and perpetuated by the Rush Limbaughs of the world.

And it pains me to see that so called LIBERALS have joined the hit-job. My, how memories are short.

3. I don't have a problem with the Clintons.
But, I understand that the hit-job that has followed the Clintons is one of the major reasons why many liberals seek to move past them.

We know it will perpetuate.

I am not worried, however. They have always survived and risen to the top.

10. You can not "move past them".
The attacks will persist under Obama's administration. It is best we learn how to fight back against their coordinated smears than perpetuate them like many "liberals" on this forum prefer to do.

Monica and cigars, Troopergate, Travelgate, Vince Foster's "murder," HRC is a lesbian, etc. It's sickening. I listened to this shit for eight years, and to see it on erae??? They did EVERYTHING they could to ruin the Clintons or drive them to suicide.

There are legit policy reasons to dislike either Bill or Hillary Clinton. This RW garbage on here is beyond the pale and shameful.

38. What you are doing is using the things that are not true to
cover the things that were - Monica was real, and as a mom to 3 girls 8 to 13 when it all came out, I wish it weren't true. Troopergate was a huge number of lies. Travelgate was not illegal, but if I liked HRC I wouldn't bring it up - she did not cover herself with glory. The last 2 were complete fabrications.

You also ignore all the campaign contribution problems - which ended up biting Gore, not the more culpable Clintons.

Now I wished I'd have taped it off the TV with a camera or something, but as the EC results were coming in the first time around Bob Dole stood on the steps of congress with the pillars behind and snarled & spat as is his way that they intended to conduct hearings on Bill Clinton every day of his presidency...and he was tipping all the cards right there cause that's what they did

26. Hear, hear!!
The reason that the "so called LIBERALS have joined the hit-job" is because that's what the anti-Clintons liberals are...they're "so-called liberals" who get their ideas from places like Michael Moore's book jackets where MM tells them that goofy myth how Bill was the best Republican president since Lincoln.

The reason why the Republican whackjobs went after the Clintons with such a vengeance is because they hated the Clintons' liberal ways and what they stood for. Keep in mind that half the "so-called" Liberals on DU are most likely Republican trolls trying to pass themselves off as Liberals. Surely no Liberal I've ever met has ever crapped on a fellow Democrat like the so-called Liberals on this forum who don't have a respectful or appreciative bone in their bodies.

And now we're done doing that. I assume Hillary will do a great job at State. It is Obama who will be attacked for the next 4 to 8 years.

The fact is that Bill Clinton did something that left him open to attacks. You need to accept that.

34. Clinton was no liberal.
He was certainly better than the alternatives, but he deserves ire from the left on at least four points (NAFTA, destroying AFDC, signing off on deregulation of financial institutions, and signing off on telecom mergers and deregulation). He was the classic triangulator--often siding with the Republicans against his own party. He did little to advance the left's agenda.

The right wing's attacks against Clinton were generally unfounded and ridiculous. The left's attacks on Clinton were well deserved--then and now.

I hope Obama will be better.

The United States is a LIBERAL Country.

it was also a game of Battleship with one of the small two hole ships as the only piece on the board.

And the Republicans hit it and it did harm President Clintons term in office and legacy. But, that two hole ship was placed by President Clinton himself and he has himself to blame. Well and his family history.

All I have to do is listen to Limbaugh on Monday to realize what Clinton's DU detractors will be saying on Tuesday.

Maybe it's a spurious correlation, maybe it's not-- but either way, it's ineffectual, inutile and worthless.

Granted, I can occasionally (well... let's say 'rarely' instead) read some valid criticisms that contain merit and validity, but on the whole, it's pretty much the same old characters playing out the same old petty and puerile monologues.
