3. I read the article.....and the whole time that they were comparing
Obama's contribution totals with McCain's, and how much Obama spent in the same time period.....I'm saying to myself, well Obama paid for organization, McCain, not so much. The story gives one the feeling that they both spent their money on the same things, but that Obama just had more of it.

9. Holy Crap that is a lot, 3/4 of a billion dollars
The next question is, will that record be broken in 2012?

2. I think 2 billion $ should be the goal for 2012
Start fundraising in November 2010; knock on wood there will be no primary opponent, and Obama can just stash a huge pile of money in the bank while the Republic candidates slug it out.

That should be enough to have paid coordinators and precinct captains in every single state and ads airing in every media market in the country, and of course, a 60 minute paid infomercial in the last week of the campaign.

4. I think that once Obama looks into some media reform actions,
then he can deal with public financing. At this point, does the government even have the money for Public financing?

5. I've never been a fan of public financing
at least not with the stupid spending limits. All the spending limits do is force the candidates to abandon dozens of states, rather than promoting their message to as wide of an audience as possible. The 50 state strategy was made possible because Obama bypassed the 1970's style public financing.

6. Yeah...but I'm just afraid if this money thing keeps on climbing.
Something needs to be done.
Plus, the period for campaigning needs to be shorter.

I noted that some GOP members are already spending time in Iowa.
That's ridiculous.

Media Reform of sorts is needed as well.
Part of the reason why so much money is needed
is because the media will slanter candidates in a minute,
and provides whichever candidate they want with Free media,
something that only a well financed campaign can come close to overcoming.

7. I tend to agree, but unfortunately, Obama's stunning machine paved the path
to an era of even-bigger campaign war chests. I don't regret my donations in the slightest, nor do I fault Obama for raising enough cash to crush McCain completely. It was successful, and especially after eight years of Bush, success on the field of battle was paramount. Success breeds imitation, though, and the legacy of the Obama campaign (as distinct from the Obama presidency) will be a supercharging of the campaign-spending arms race.

The Presidency is a prize of literally unlimited value. Political causes therefore will spend every dollar and every hour they can attempting to secure it. All attempts at restricting that have failed miserably. Obama found a magic formula for unlocking even more money and volunteer/staffer hours than ever before. So it goes.

8. Did you hear about Plouffe writing a book, "The Audacity to Win"?...
But I'm almost concerned that he's gonna spill the beans more than I'm comfortable with....although Obama gave him his blessings.

It will be a best seller! The Bible of Campaign Books forever more.
The GOP should be restricted from reading it though.

10. I think one billion would be enough
if the same energy and efficency is present in 2012.
