Obama uses Zune. Will iPod fans demand apology?

Here’s what we know about President-elect Barack Obama and gadgets:

He loves his BlackBerry. He’s a Mac, not a PC. He was seen working out with a Zune.

Wait...a Zune? Not an iPod? Is it too late for a recount?

Obama’s alleged choice of digital music player has sparked so much buzz in the techie blogosphere that all the incoming traffic briefly crashed the Web site of the Philadelphia paper that broke the story.

Fans of the iPod don't believe Santos account and demand proof of what they consider betrayal by the president-elect, who is known to use that brand. Santos responded in a second post: “I’ve seen a Zune in action. I know what it looks like.”

I was going to by my wife a Zune, but opted for the ipod because I knew she'd want the "name brand." Now Zune is the name brand!

In fact, in common usage the word "zune" has come to be a slang word for "crap." As in, "everytime I eat a double refried bean burrito, I always take a huge zune."

Would you work out in your best clothes? Would you wear your best watch to the gym or the $10 throw away from the discount bin at Walmart? Why bring that real thing to work out - use a second string wanna be - if it gets lost or broken, no biggie.

iPod's are great looking, but I hate that they are so inclusive and not compatible with anything. I can't use them because that pisses me off so much. Plus, there are lots of other great MP3 players out there. Maybe I'll buy a Zuna for Christmas.

I hate iTunes as well. Napster rocks.

Any MP3 file can be loaded onto an iPod...even from Napster, and they're very compatible with Macs. It's not Apple's fault MS makes shitty OSes.

Yesterday the Philadelphia City Paper ignited a controversy over the question, with a blog entry that included the innocuous detail that the President-elect was working out while listening to the Microsoft (not Apple!) music player.

But today a spokesman puts the vicious rumor to rest. “Not true, the President-elect uses an iPod,” he says. And the Philadelphia writer, Neal Santos, blogs today: “It could belong to one of the many Secret Service dudes that were at the gym, Michelle, or even one of his daughters.”
