Obama, Iraq, and the Victory Meme

I have not been posting so much lately, getting ready for the holidays, and that in and of itself has given me a new perspective on Obama and Iraq.

It has occurred to me over the last few days, that Obama has led the entire country out of this "victory" idea (our last hold over from Vietnam, our fear of defeat), to the understanding that we have done all we can do, and it will be up to the Iraqis to take care of themselves. There is no defeat that the hard right can nurse for the next forty years. Especially the ones who never participated in actual combat action anyway..

He always said he would draw down troops, set some sort of timetable and refocus the war on terror in Afghanistan and the Pakistan out lands.

He was roundly and soundly criticized on all sides for his positions. From SOS Clinton to even VP Biden, much less the looney tunes of the right wing. But he was right from the get go, that Iraq was the wrong focus on the war and terror, and now even the Iraqi's want a time table, and the current administration is signing on to a time table.

This is just an aside, you can almost count on it, those who yell the loudest for military victory aka the WW2 type, have never had a uniform on in their lives.

It is a far different picture than the one we were left from the Nixon era with people storming the American consulate and a army coming into reoccupy Saigon. No helicopters off the roof with people hanging on.

This is just No Drama Obama at the helm again, using our intellect instead of our gut to understand what the actual situation is.

1. I dunno--the GOP chick on the McLaughlin report was going on shamelessly
about how lucky Obama is to get a near-victorized Iraq, thanks to Bush. They aren't tired of using the victory meme, cuz it still effin works. Obama talks well about it, and of course he's right, but there's nothing like cheating and lying to keep the pukkkies pink cheeked and excited with the smell of blood.

4. That may be the danger of the last 60 days. Whenever PE Obama
steps in to help the credit will be given to the *ss administration. If we just set around and let it fall then we will get the blame because we did nothing. FDR let Hoover sink. Then he started fresh.
