A President who struggles with quitting smoking...just like I did!
I quit smoking three years ago, but I remember what it was like to struggle with quitting, it wasn't easy, and that's what Obama seems to be going through right now, and I believe he can relate to many people in this country who are going through the same thing!

1. I suggest Commit Lozenges.
Even though they're more addictive (IMO) than cigarettes, they won't kill you and you won't smell like an ashtray.

14. I quit cold for ten years.
It was easy, smoking is bad for your lungs. But I missed it. There are positive effects. Then I smoked a bit. It was still bad for my lungs. Now I chew gum.

2. He's a human being
He's also admitted to smoking something other than tobacco. I sincerely hope this means he will work to stop the stupid "war" against marijuana--especially medical marijuana.

4. He didn't want to say it outright
but he did admit that during the campaign he "fell off the wagon". So he's still struggling with it.

7. It's difficult to quit...
I'm a smoker and you feel like an idiot because you know how unhealthy it is. He did better than me...they probably would have caught me lighting up in some picture on the campaign trail!

5. Quitting cigarettes is hard to do
Many many people, including me, have done it, and let's hope Barack Obama does it too. It is a stinky vice. But if it's the worst vice he has, I suspect we'll be ok.

6. Listen...
All you have to do is decide you want to quit. Then wean yourself down to a single hit a day and it becomes so disgusting that you just can't do it anymore. It also helps is you don't go anywhere near it again! Fortunately for me the city banned smoking in bars; it made a big difference.

8. that's it...If I'm drinking I feel like I HAVE to smoke with it....I'm gonna
work in quitting..You're right about deciding when it's done. I have to decide that I'm finished before I'll be successful.

My brother, one of those "holier than thou" kind of people, prefaces his advice on how to quit smoking (and break a drug addiction, stop drinking, overeating, etc.) with the same kind of crap statement.

There's always a simple solution for every problem. And it's usually wrong.

16. Look...
I quit once before for three years, then I quit a million times since so I know how you feel. This time I didn't substitute or try to go cold turkey. I just slowed down. After three weeks it got easier. Try it. Take just one puff and then put it out. Wait longer to the next puff each time, eventually the stink, the dizziness, and the headache are just not pleasurable anymore. I still have a pack here with almost 19 smokes in it. It has been six months and yes there are times every day that I want one. In my greatest moments of weakness I just reach for that pack and smell the partly burnt one. It stinks like hell. I feel sick and that's the end of the desire. Who needs a six dollar a day addiction?

13. There's a Star Trek "Voyager" episode - "scientific method," in which four of the actors...
were trying to quit smoking when it was filmed.

They look TERRIBLE!!!

But looking terrible fit in with the story.

15. Did you have Michelle to answer to if you fell off the wagon?
I'd think that would be enough motivation for me! lol
