Snippet about Obama and Veterans Affairs
This is about Shinseki, but says a lot about Obama. He sure wants to do the right thing.

snip//

When Obama was elected to the Senate, he asked to be on the Veterans Affairs committee, much to the surprise of some on his staff. In late 2006, Obama aide Robert Gibbs told me that one of his boss's top legislative priorities that next year would be an overhaul of VA health care. (At the time, Gibbs and other Obama advisers were participating in very preliminary discussions about a presidential run, but no one, Gibbs included, expected it to happen.)

I asked Gibbs what Obama considered to be his greatest accomplishment of his first two years. Probably, he said, working with Dick Durbin to persuade the federal government to revise its disability care standards to extend the umbrella of coverage of thousands of Illinois veterans. Obama authored legislation to provide more money to help soldiers with traumatic brain injuries and wrote an amendment to increase funding for homeless vets.

During the presidential campaign, Obama proposed $4 billion in new spending on veterans health care.

1. Our Vets will see a vast improvement in their care
in 6 months to 2 years. The Repugs have ignored the VA until most recently and they only did the minimum to force the spot light elsewhere.

Obama picked the right guy to improve the VA.

2. This is one of our most
distressing issues..if not the most. How can you send Soldiers off to a misbegotten war on Iraq and then not take care of the Vets?

I feel sorry for the Soldiers who listen to US propaganda and don't realize what gold they have in an Obama admin.

4. True that. And if someone's aware of the plight of the vets,
I think he will do everything in his power to have less vets involved.

number one important issue ever since the bushits started killing people.

It's almost surreal that this is coming to pass after 8 years of the one who thought it was all about him.

3. Shinseki at VA...finally, a REAL Vet who REALLY cares!
Obama hit this one out of the park. The VA is an AWOL BUSH-IT nightmare. Whatever skills Shinseki may or may not lack as a bureaucrat, he is the first real *C*A*R*I*N*G* "boots" soldier in charge of the VA since the former Senator from Georgia that draft-evader Chambis beat with slander. I'm sure that ex-real vet VA chief will guide Shinseki around so that Iraq vets don't become ""clochards" like the French vets of WWII.

BRAVO OBAMA....So far he has been a wise man; but I don't see how I can continue holding my breath for another forty days....I've been doing it since 2003 when I ceased to be RED and turned BLUE.
