What is the schedule of inaugural activities?
I imagine the whole week of January 20th will be full of activities, but I have yet to see a schedule. Also, will the House be back in session on Jan. 20th?

Thanks.

1. Inauguration info.
The best most complete site (IMO):

http://www.washington.org/visiting/experience-dc/presid...

Here is the "official" inaugural site which has info about tickets:

http://www.inaugural.senate.gov /

Here is the Presidential Inaugural Committee site which has some additional information:

7. Now that's change we can believe in!
:toast:

DC police are a bit pissed about this. They will need more personnel to handle the extra hours.

10. Well, at around 8am, I will get out of bed.....
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 09:59 PM by Clio the Leo
..... I'll feed the cats and make some coffee.

8-10am: I will flip back and forth between CNN, MSNBC and CSPAN while plopped on the couch in my PJs making sure to have my kitties present to witness such an historic occasion.

Approx 8:05 kitties will leave the couch and run off to their respective holes for their morning naps, not really caring who or what Obama is as he does not feed them.

11am: I will watch as Bush and Cheney leave OUR HOUSE for the last time as President and Vice President. I will thank God that our long nightmare is over. I will call friends and proclaim! "He's OUTTA THERE!!!! WOOOOHOOO!!!" I will wonder what Joe and Dick could POSSIBLY be talking about in the limo ride from the White House to the Capitol.

11:15: I will discuss on DU with female members here (and fashionably minded male posters) as to the design merits of Jill and Michelle's respective suits. After much debate, we will come to a consensus that Malia and Sasha look like little princesses.

11:30: After much pomp and circumstance complete with patriotic songs led by choirs of school children and poetic recitations by Maya Angelou, I will have exhausted my first full box of Kleenex (from crying.)

11:50 Joe Biden will be sworn as the forty-whatever he is Vice President of the United States. I will immediately proclaim to the DU faithful that "VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN IS HOT!!!!!"

12 noon: I will rise to my feet like a big cheese ball and behold one of the greatest moments of my life as Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. I will then open my SECOND box of crying tissues and say a prayer of thanks that I have been allowed to live to see this day. I will find all of my sleeping kitties, kiss them all on the head and then call my loved ones and tell them I love them.

12:05: I will sit on the edge of my seat and watch "Great Obama Speeches #87" (or whatever we're up to at this point) and think to myself that, while it was good ..... "nothing will ever top that 2004 speech."

12:30 I will watch in awe as my greatest dream comes true and the Obamas walk the ENTIRE length of Pennsylvania Ave like the Carters did in '76. Crowds will cheer and Barack will walk with that swagger he has and will own the world for that moment. His presence saying "SCREW YOU HATERS!!!! I'm A MAN AND YOU CANNOT STOP ME FROM WALKING DOWN THE STREET!!! I AM UNTOUCHABLE!!!!!"

1pm: Time for lunch eating and parade watching!

3pm: I will watch as President Obama signs something special and important into law as his first act as president. I would hope that it's an order closing Guantanamo, but know it will most likely be something financially related. I will remark that his watch reminds me of the memory I have of Clinton doing the same thing 16 years earlier (He had on a rubber watch and that will always stand out in my mind.)

3:30: Nap time!!!!

6pm: I will begin preparations to attend my OWN local "Inaugural Ball" but wont leave until I've seen Michelle ("a vision!") and Barack ("superdreamy in his union-made tux!") waltz off into the night.

7pm - ? My friends and I will celebrate all night, love each other and consider how LUCKY we are to be alive at this moment.

You know what, I just realized, that's NOT what you were asking for was it? ;)

12. Well, I'd share some of mine with you but.....
... I really do think I need to be stingy and stockpile if I want enough to last me the whole day. :)

OH! and I left out....

11:45am: I will remark how superawesome it is to have a President who has four different ethnic groups in his extended family represented there with him seated on the dais.

14. To their little dinky ranch house!!!!
Seriously! What's up with that?

That looks like something my family and I lived in during the late 1970s. I mean, it's a nice house I guess but doesn't exactly look worthy of a former President.

I guess this means he really wasn't the President after all!!!

(I bet Martin Sheen's house is WAY nicer! lol)

16. Clio, I loved that. I will need lots of kleenex to watch Joe and Barack get sworn in
Such a good freakin day in history it will be! And the dresses and tuxes and bye bye to Shrub/Darth Cheney! I am thinking of watching it at my Mom's house even though she voted for McLame, I need someone around to debate fashion comments, laugh at Bush about and admire the Obama and Biden families with. Mom is cool, she knows its a historic day.

17. Ha ha! A friend of mine said I needed to add that....
.... at some point during the evening we will be dancing to "Run's House" by RUN DMC and she highly suggests that everyone do the same! :)
