Blanche Lincoln, Jon Tester. Max Baucus all voted No.
So did Harry Reid, but that was for procedural reasons. Several Senators didn't vote at all. Here's the list.

The 52-35 roll call by which opponents on Thursday prevented the Senate from considering a $14 billion emergency bailout passed by the House for U.S. automakers.

On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote to formally consider the House bill and a "no" vote was a vote to stop its progress. Supporters of the bailout needed 60 votes to advance it.

Voting "yes" were 40 Democrats, 10 Republicans and 2 independents.

Voting "no" were 4 Democrats and 31 Republicans.

3. I have a hard time believing that Reid couldn't whip up merely 8 more votes.
Some of those not voting could have been dragged in to vote, like Biden.

Reid really needs to get those rogue Democrats and beat the crap out of them.

4. I don't think he could have.
Biden, Wyden, Baucus, Lincoln and Tester still don't add up to 8.

9. Actually 7 more votes because Reid voted no
in order to preserve the right to move to call the previous question and re-vote the issue if more votes materialized later.

11. The fact that he then declared that the bill was dead for the year
means he knew that the "nos" could be moved. It was very clear in comments before the vote that they knew it would fail. Earlier in the day, when there seemed to be more hope, he spoke of 2 or 3 votes yesterday evening and possibly votes today. Before that it was clear that he wanted a vote that was not close - even as it was clear before yesterday that many Republicans almost wanted any bill to fail. If there was a reasonable chance, he likely would have had Kerry fly back and called Biden, Kennedy and Wyden in if there were a chance today of getting 3 more votes from either Republicans or Democrats. (All four have excellent records on this)

So, it seems the votes just weren't there.

6. Just emailed Lincoln
to tell her how disappointed I was in her vote. Won't do much good, but at least I'm a constituent and I feel my protest may carry a bit more weight than if the email came from an outsider.
