Report preview: 2008 voter turnout highest since 1960 (and other tid bits)
American University's Center for the Study of the American Electorate plans to release a report Wednesday on voter turnout in the presidential election. The group, headed by Curtis Gans, previewed it today.

Among the findings:

• Voter turnout was 131 million, the highest since 1960.

• African-American turnout was major factor in the increase.

• College-educated and college-resident youth increased their turnout and played a major role in Democrat Barack Obama’s victory.

• Turnout increases were highest in the South.

• Ralph Nader received less than one-half of one-percent of the eligible vote.
