1. Because Reagan democrats probably don't vote because of economics
They vote for cultural issues. And sadly no matter how criminal or incompetent the GOP is they are still going to carry southern whites.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/eb/111thSENATE.svg

Of the 41-42 GOP senators in the 111th congress, 19 are from the south despite the south making up 1/4 of the states. The other 37 states of the union have a combined 22-23 GOP senators and 51-52 democratic senators.

Basically, it doesn't matter. People who vote GOP do so largely due to social and racial tension, not economics.

9. I disagree.... Reagan Democrats were made to feel GOOD about the country following Carter....
And now they're being shit upon by a few number of southern GOP Senators they have nothing in common with. The GOP just keeps marginalizing themselves via economic stupidity.

10. I think the reason is what Thom Hartmann says
the GOP needs to bust these large, politically progressive organizations. Sans the unions, McCain might have won the election.

7. Neo-Conservatism has morphed into Neo-Hooverism

They want to take bad economic times and make them worse.

To them, the Great Depression just wasn't bad enough. They want to cause something even worse.
