When President Obama takes office and the Rethugs mention the word Filibuster
Say make my fucking day. No Procedural Filibuster. If they want a Filibuster make them do the real deal. Make them bring out the cots and wear the diapers.

With American people suffering if they want to stand in the Senate Chambers and read the phone book, the bible, talk about nothing for a few days. Let the fuckers do it. I'm all for it. I want those images. I want them to be seen on TV live flashes talking about nonsense with a Democratic Senator saying we have over 50 votes, the republicans are being obstructionist to helping the American people. I want the image of these old white guys blocking Healthcare, Clean Energy, and Economic plans. Make them Filibuster Card Check. Expose them for the middle class hating assholes they are.

They won't be able to spin it. It will last a week and once the pollster show Republican congressional ratings tanking the Filibuster will end and they will fall deeper and deeper into despair. Time to treat these sons of bitches like Bush treated us for 8 years.

Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 08:02 PM by Jake3463
They can send a thousand with a click of an email...Washington, Northern VA, and Maryland he did well in both primary and General Election.

They can probably send a few 100 to each of their offices in their home states as well.

10. The Republicans are going to be hard pressed to find 40 members of
their caucus to support a filibuster. They will have only 42 members, and on any given issue it will be political suicide for at least two or more of them to obstruct. Right now they're grandstanding. They will not have that luxury in the next Congress.

11. I actually wouldn't be surprised if one or two of them don't defect
If they try to enforce party discipline.

12. They should do this, but unfortunately it won't be as effective as it should be
As soon as the current Congress convened, in January 2007, newly empowered Democrats put forth a bill to raise the minimum wage. The Republicans filibustered it. The Democrats did, in fact, let the filibuster go on for a while before grudgingly giving in to the Republicans' demands (including tax cuts for business in the bill).

We had the spectacle of the Republicans tying up the Senate just to stop the working poor and lower-middle class from getting a wage increase that would only partially keep up with inflation. The "cause" for which the Republicans fought was helping their corporate paymasters. Nevertheless, they don't seem to have paid much of a price for it. Many Americans will dismiss such an event as "more partisan bickering" without troubling to see whether one side is right and the other wrong.

16. they keep raising the bar
In the 90s Clinton had to work with a Republican Congress on the heels of 12 years of Republican rule. We got NAFTA, CAFTA, the WTO and the War on the Poor.

Under Bush they had all three branches of government and solid majorities but not a fillibuster proof majority. The Dems rolled over like they WANTED it. We got what we got... (too awful to even enumerate.... you know the drill).

Then with a Democratic majority since 06 we saw minor movement, but even the SCHIPS and Veterans Benefits... VETO VETO VETO. Bush vetoed nothing for SIX YEARS, then he VETOED EVERY DAMN THING.

NOW, we will have the White House and substantial majorities in BOTH Houses of Congress.

BUT NOW WE HAVE TO FEAR THE MIGHTY FILLIBUSTER?

OH.MY.GOD

no, just no... no effing way... NO... only NO

They will have to arrest my happy ass on a daily basis. I ain't playing.

JAKE? hey, thanks for posting, if you read this far.

just thanks

And they should never *have* started. You wanna keep debate open, keep talking.
