Hell has frozen over - Cheney and Bush now the voice of reason for the Republican Party
Cheney tried to convince the Republican Senate caucus to back the auto bailout bill or otherwise have the republican party become the party of hoover forever. The insane republican senators told Cheney to go to hell and stuck hard with their union busting stance, and killed the bailout bill, threatening the jobs of millions of Americans. David Shuster on Countdown read an internal republican senate memo which talked openly about killing the bailout in order to bust the unions.

And now, with the bailout failure, it's Bush to the rescue, as he is pledging to use the financial bailout money to provide the 15 billion needed by the auto industry right now.

Do the Republicans realize that Americans are sick to death of ideological-partisan politics? Do they even realize this nation is on the verge of total economic collapse? Do they think that by busting the union and stealing millions of jobs from Americans is their way of getting back to power? If they keep this up, 2010 may be just as ugly as 2006 and 2008 were for the Republicans.

1. Everything is a game with them....everything. They care zero
about how their crap negatively effects the rest of us. Bush and Cheney will still go down as murderous criminals. I hope that everybody in the rust belt wakes up and NEVER votes for a republican again.

Country First my ass!!

abortions and flag burning (or whatever wedge issue they invent next) are bigger threats than the GOP - just like they've been doing for the last 30 years.

4. Don't worry. It's only a flicker of a conscience has already been extinguished within both men.

In Bush's case, it has already gone away with all those midnight laws that were quickly signed.

And in Cheney's case, the Tinman couldn't find a heart. But a little oil will always do. :sarcasm:

5. I think that Cheney and Bush being the voice of reason now
is less a reflection on Cheney and Bush and more a reflection on how absolutely insane the Republican party leadership is right now. They actually have less of a handle on reality than Bush/Cheney. Now, that is saying something. I think, though, the repub congress are being irrational because they're driven, not just by the goal of killing off the union, but because they're pissed off at Bush/Cheney for destroying the party and refusing to work with them or listen to them.

6. My thoughts exactly. I've always believed that these instances reflect the larger GOP Civil War.

The war has gone public with the vote on Thursday night. And Bush and Cheney, truthfully, are caught in the middle. Now let's see who's going to be thrown under the bus in the race to control the direction of the party.

7. The sad thing is that the Southern Republican Senators don't even understand the auto industrry
They made a play on "equal pay" for southern auto workers who work for Japanese and Korean compainies. Sadly, they don't understand the a GM & Ford failure would also bankrupt the same foreign makers in the south. They all depend on the same part manufacturers. If Vendor X loses 60% of his business because GM or Ford goes under, he goes out of business and can't provide parts to the foreigners.

The ignorance on the Republican side is absolutely amazing.

8. The hardcore radical anti-American rethugs are in control now
Palin and Jindal are their leaders. They will purge any members left that appear just a little moderate. The Thug party will be big in the south and dead everywhere else. At least that means they wont be winning any national elections anytime soon.
