I concur that the news media are being effected by the economy, but I also think that the sour economy also cut the effectiveness of right-wing propaganda. It's hard to believe that the billionaire boyz have the average working salary man and working stiff's interests at heart after the pink slips come, the house moves towards foreclosure, and the remaining savings start dwindling like well-water during a long drought.

Believing right-wing bunkum was something many righties could afford to believe in during flush times when Newt was riding high and Bill Clinton was fighting a rear-guard campaign to preserve as much of the New Deal and Great Society as he could; now that so many of the public and private protections of post-New Deal America lie in ruins and genuine hardship has set down at the kitchen table, many erstwhile right-wingers are being forced to go through a reality-check.
