Doesn't matter the size, it's the thought that counts!

4. What a great idea....
Let's all clean out our closets and send our old shoes to Bush.

Nothing like a bit of civil disobedience to show how we say good-bye.

5. I think this could become a theme.......
I'm liking it!

In the Arab world: a gesture of contempt
the Arab world, shoe flinging is a gesture of extreme disrespect. A notable occurrence of this gesture happened in Baghdad, Iraq in 2003. When U.S. forces pulled down a giant statue of Saddam Hussein during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, many Iraqi detractors of Hussein threw their shoes at the fallen statue.

This may be an ancient gesture from the Middle East; Psalms 60:10, speaking of some of the traditional enemies of Judah, says that "Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe...." (KJV)

The shoe represents the lowest part of the body (the foot) and displaying or throwing a shoe at someone or something in Arab cultures denotes that the person or thing is "beneath them." Showing the bottom of one's feet or shoes (for example, putting one's feet up on a table or desk) in Arab cultures is considered an extreme insult. Examples include Iraqi citizens smacking torn-down posters of Saddam Hussein with their shoes, and the depiction of President of the United States George H. W. Bush on a tile mosaic of the floor of the Al-Rashid Hotel's lobby, forcing all visitors entering the hotel to walk on Bush's face to enter the hotel.

During President George W. Bush's surprise visit to Iraq in December 2008, an Iraqi man threw shoes at him during a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamel al-Maliki.<1>

edited to add that a card cut in the shape of a shoe would draw more attention.
Then, no one would have to pick up the card to see a pic.

as I don't have work to wear them to.
Since I don't need them,
I thought I'd toss them your way.

39. Remember the Bush Poo Flags?
Police in Germany are hunting pranksters who have been sticking
miniature flag portraits of US President George W. Bush into piles of
dog poo in public parks. Josef Oettl, parks administrator for Bayreuth,
said: "This has been going on for about a year now, and there must be
2,000 to 3,000 piles of excrement that have been claimed during that
time."

The series of incidents was originally thought to be some sort of
protest against the US-led invasion ofIraq. And then when it continued
it was thought to be a protest against President George W. Bush's
campaign for re-election. But it is still going on and the police say
they are completely baffled as to who is to blame. "We have sent out
extra patrols to try to catch whoever is doing this in the act," said
police spokesman Reiner Kuechler. "But frankly, we don't know what we
would do if we caught them red handed." Legal experts say there is no
law against using feces as a flag stand and the federal legal experts
say there is no law against using feces as a flag stand and the federal
constitution is vague on the issue.

26. I hurried back to recommend this thread. Everyone else who forgot to
recommend, please do so !

How about:
We try to time the mailing that they arrive right before Jan 20.
We make a big deal nationwide if at all possible.
We include the idea in our Christmas cards and letters to encourage others who know us and love us and won't be mad.
We include a note:

Dear President Bush
I limped in these shoes during your pResidency
with a new day, and the White House under new Management
let me send one of them to you.
It is your turn to limp
into the obscurity you
so richly deserve.
A
happy
citizen

ob.scu.ri.ty
def: absence of light. darkness

Is there anyone who has the time and is excited to organize it and keep it in front of all of us.
TOO COOL and so timely FrenchieCat !

27. Furthermore, please read my comments, and then I'll let this rest a minute or two:
A shoe, if you don't have one you want to spare, can cost as little as a couple of bucks at a goodwill store.
You put it in a post office prepaid envelope for as little as about three bucks fifty.

You then take the same amount of money, approx. and buy a food bank box at the checkout of your grocery store.
(4.99 at my counter)

Voila.
Everybody has been helped.
Because understanding how many shoes are being thrown at him will be a big help to Bush in assessing his legacy.

I just tracked down a crappy pair of sandals I wore once before they broke. They should fit nicely into a padded mailing envelope. Can you imagine how much fun the SS is going to have X-raying and using sniffer dogs on millions of pairs of shoes?? Heck, they might even have to beef up the workforce for a bit, and lots of folks could use those temporary jobs this Christmas.

Just one question: what address should I mail them to? POS, 1600 Pennylvania Ave, etc. etc.?

69. I think this is a cute idea but for the life of me I don't want the Secret Service at my door
and even though the shoes would be harmless the intent might be considered otherwise.

Perhaps I could just send him a picture of a pair of shoes and then donate a pair of shoes to charity

76. Don't put a return address on the package.
I have a whole bag full of old shoes I'm getting rid of. I just might pull out a pair and send them off.

78. That address once again:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Some of you might have wondered about the zip code. The Postal Service will figure it out if you just say: The White House, Washington, DC. But it might take longer.

79. That's the first half of a wonderful idea.
The second half is to find some way to set it up so it becomes a big-time news story. Like, they should all be mailed to a central point & delivered as close as one can get to the White House in a dump truck. Notify the media in advance & cover it with your own cameras in case they decide it's not newsworthy--then splash the videos everywhere.
