22. Something I've noticed, too. But I'm a 6'1" tall woman myself!

Malia at 10 looks about 5'2" (in relation to a father whose about 6 feet) which is about how tall I was at the same age. But I was 10 in 1965 (for those who don't wanna do the math, my 54th birthday is on Tuesday) and women were still considered fragile flowers in those days. I'm glad that Malia has so many more reasons to love her height than I did--she won't have to worry that no boy will ever want her if she beats him in team sports, that no one will ask her to the prom or say things like You'd be really pretty if you weren't so big.

Of course, the African American community has always embraced physically strong women, far more than the tight-lipped-closed-sphinctered-gated-complexed-diet-jello-eating middle class white neighborhood I grew up in. I would bet that Michelle was never as self-height-hating as I was (I think she's over 6 feet as well). In fact during the primaries, after seeing Michelle and realizing that Barack had fallen in love with a women of her strength and intelligence, I decided then and there he got my vote.

The Obamas are history-makers in so many ways, it's nice to know us tall chicks got some firsts there as well!

And the one with Barack putting the flower in her hair is beautiful. I know from having two little girls myself and being a daughter as well that the father/daughter relationship is so important. I am still close to my father to this day at almost 33 years old. He gave me confidence and unconditional love. My little ones, 3 and 4, adore their father. They are Daddies' little girls. Malia seems to have a great and special relationship with her Dad.
