Any ideas why Blago isn't resigning?
Spitzer did within 48 hours when accused of far less. I believe even Foley resigned immediately. I can't get over the nerve of this guy. Do you think he will ever resign?

5. Good point. It must be horrible to be governor one day
and then to screw up so badly that you're looking at doing time.

21. Right
I heard something to the effect that he said he needed the salary. Apparently, he thought he needed a lot more than his mere salary when he was trying to sell favors all over the place.

4. It'll probably take the IL gray hairs ala Nixon
going to the governor's mansion and telling him that 2/3 of the senate is ready to convict and remove him from office. He, like Nixon, probably won't resign until then.

22. He'd fit right it with some of the contemporary pols up there...
corruption, payoffs, using political power for personal revenge. Not that my state is one to brag about either.

7. Because he's an egotist?
He may well feel like he hasn't done anything wrong. Or, more practically, he may be trying to cut a deal.

12. He believes, rightly so, that they don't have credible indictment on him
He was under investigation for, what, 5 years? The only reason why they moved was to prevent him from appointing Obama's replacement. This means that they still don't have enough to indict him.

Those tapes? You can argue that this is what usually happens in Politics and many say that while it is revolting and perhaps politically damaging, there is no certainty of a crime being committed. No money passed, no bribe can be recorded.

Why shouldn't Obama or his advisers participate in the discussion? It would make a lot of sense. It appears, from other threads here, that Obama is rooting for Caroline Kennedy to replace Hillary, so why not get his input to replace himself? No doubt, Biden had his input for his replacement, too.

And it is quite common in politics to praise someone as a good fund raiser person as an asset for an appointment.

13. He is convinced that TALKNG about something illegal
isn't the same as proof that he actually did anything.

He may have a point and perhaps Fitz did indeed blow a conviction while accomplishing permanent tarnishing of Blago and saving the Senate seat for a better candidate.

14. Completely different personality
Blago is a cheap bullying thug. Whatever you may think of Foley and Spitzer - and I don't think much of them, myself - either one is more a class act than Rod Blagojevich.

He is holding on because he can. His power has crumbled over the past week or so, but he still has a certain amount of it as long as he's governor. I would not be surprised to learn he's still cutting some corrupt deals here and there. And I'm certain he's trying or about to try to cut a deal with the feds.

We have a relatively high tolerance for political corruption here in Illinois. As long as the schools open on time, the garbage gets picked up, the highways are drivable and nobody gets hurt, you can get away with a certain amount of felonious finagling. Our last governor's corruption actually caused children to die. There was no hope for him to stay out of jail. Blago's act would have been over the line in any event, but following hard on the heels of Ryan's mess, it shows a man who is arrogant beyond belief. I don't expect him to resign until he thinks it's in his best interest. The best interests of the people of Illinois or of the governor's office are of no consequence to the weasel.

Bloated egotistical assholes tend to not do the right thing for all of humanity. Eight years of Bush in the White House should have taught you that one!
