14. All democratically elected former presidents are referred to as president including President Gore.
Only idiots that are selected by the Supreme Court rather than the will of the American electorate should not be addressed as president under any fucking circumstances.

39. I think he has a heart of gold - I'd forgotten about that. You're right...
He blurts out things that aren't helpful, and he does it often, but I find it endearing somehow. Oddly it doesn't make me worry about his abilities as VP. He's not stupid and he's not confused. His words just - he just reminds me of a puppy... verbally, anyway. I can't describe it any more reasonably than that (not that that is at all reasonable, it's the only thing that fits for me right now)... : )

40. I agree with you.
There is one passage in his book Promises to Keep that makes me feel so bad for him when he was a kid. He used to memorize what page they had to read in class according to where he sat in class because the reading always went in aphabetical order. Well, the teacher did not like the way he pronounced a word and since he had it memorized he got nervous and couldn't talk without stuttering and the teacher made fun of him (called him Mr. Bu-bu-bu-bu -Biden) so he just got up and walked out of class. Poor Joe.

42. oh damn... that's just painful. I have to say I feel really guilty in some respects, because
as a kid, the only thing I remembered about him (and it was a big deal - especially in English class) was the plagiarism scandal. I really knew nothing else.

Come to find out more about him and that and his life and career and I wish I hadn't misjudged him (okay, I was a kid but still). I have nothing but respect for the man, and I like the fact that he trips over his words - for whatever reason. I'm in his camp... I will always be so after seeing him say that if the Senate thing didn't work out, that was okay, because they can always find another Senator but his kids can't find another dad (in so many words). That is the kind of person I want making decisions that affect future generations and the fact that Obama thought he was the best guy to serve as his VP just sealed the deal for me. : )

Lovely character, good leader, right choice... verbal goofiness included...

44. I'm glad people are finally seeing Biden
for who he really is. He is not as prone to verbal gaffes as the media would have us believe. Once the "tag" was put on him, he was under constant scrutiny and any misstep was magnified.

Having read his book and listened to many of his speeches and town hall meetings, I believe he is absolutely brilliant. He can pull facts, figures, and names out of thin air - he's like a walking encyclopedia and fascinating to listen to.

We are very lucky to have him in this administration!

45. Well said. I think you're right about the presumption, too, but
I still think it's endearing - especially given the fact that the legend was borne out of some perceived "flaw". He really is sharp, and I guess that has been overshadowed by other things... took me too long to see, and I am not proud of that, but I'm thankful I reviewed my own information. What I had was wrong.

Despite being a stellar politician, I get the sense that he'd be really fun to know - and that is never a requisite for whom I consider a good leader or not... Obama - I'd need a lot of coffee to keep up with him, I fear... Biden, maybe half the time : )

46. I had the advantage of not having a
preconceived impression of Biden when I first took real notice of him back in '04, so I took him at face value. Both my grown children responded to him quickly as well. I guess that makes me even more aware of how the media can affect our opinions and perceptions. Now I am more conscious of how the media may have shaped my beliefs about people and situations over the years.

I agree about the endearing part. The more you see him, the more lovable he becomes (funny too). AND his family is amazing - wonderful people who are a great compliment to the beautiful Obamas. The next eight years will be such a treat to witness.

43. Or government sanctioned torture, the shredding of the Constitution,
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 02:54 PM by Uncle Joe
illegal wiretapping of the American People, a war based on lies with Iraq, the abandonment of the victims of Katrina, secret hearings shaping energy policy with the oil corporations, the rape of the environment, the Great Recession, the administrative betrayal of a covert CIA agent and her company whose job was monitoring nuclear proliferation, male prostitutes posing as journalists at press conferences and scripted questions all for the sake of furthering propaganda, and maybe no 9/11.

I suspect energy policy would've taken an entirely new direction under President Gore and it could be the automobile industry would've been all the stronger for it, the nation and the planet would most certainly have been more secure.

Maybe Lieberman would have been enlightened and if not he probably wouldn't have served a second term.

I can't imagine a wider discrepancy in the abilities and character of two candidates for the Presidency than Al Gore and Bush the Least.
