Caroline Kennedy haters -- answer this
How is Caroline Kennedy any less qualified than Al Franken to be a United States Senator?

1. The people are deciding if Franken is qualified. It's not being
decided on his name. And I don't hate Caroline Kennedy.

4. Isn't that how appointments go? So anyone who gets appointed would not be "judged" by the voters.

14. no. it's not how appointments go. pathetic that you think an appointment
is the same as an election. Go back to 2nd grade.

15. So if Joe Blow gets appointed by Paterson, how exactly have the voters deemed him "qualified"?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 07:00 PM by mwei924
So anyone who gets appointed will not get the scrutiny of having gone through an election. It's not exclusively a Caroline Kennedy appointment that would have that problem.

You obviously have zero comprehension skills since you had no clue what I was saying in my post.

19. Joe Blow won't be appointed.
And someone in the House or in state elective office will have at least run for office before and people will have some idea of what kind of a candidate that person is. That being said, I'm for a place holder until 2010.

23. Whoever gets appointed will have to run in 2010 if they want to keep the seat.
If they're a bad candidate, they'll get replaced anyways.

30. So what's the problem with Caroline Kennedy?
If she wants to keep the seat after 2010, she'll have to run just like any other appointment.

2. She's way more qualified than Franken.
..but I guess she doesn't have the benefit of running against a douchebag like Norm Coleman to sew up the Democratic support.

24. This has nothing to do with elections.
There is no election right now for the NY senate. It's an appointment.

3. Franken raised money, ran, and hopefully, will win the Senate seat.
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 06:53 PM by MyPetRock
Caroline is cashing in on her name to be awarded the seat.

edit: I DO NOT HATE CAROLINE KENNEDY. I respect her in many ways. I just think she should run on her own and not simply be handed the position due to her name.

13. You really feel that all she has is her name to go on?
Was she a crack head who's been hiding in a mansion somewhere all these years and just got herself together and jumped into politics?

Don't you think she has something to offer new yorkers other than her name? I have no say, I'm not a new yorker but why reduce her to just her name?

25. Whomever gets the appointment won't have run for that seat
Are you saying the only eligible contenders are people who either are currently in office or once ran for an office?

29. Bullshit
"I'm offended that Caroline Kennedy seems to think she can demand the Senate seat by stomping her rich and entitled little foot. But the real tragedy is, she probably can "

Your quote.

If your contempt was directed at the appointment process, then the statement quoted above makes no sense. Therefore, I call on your bullshit.

5. Good question
I don't hate Caroline Kennedy, though. I just figure this is up to the PTB in NY to work out, just as it was up to the people in MN to vote for who they wanted as Senator.

Who am I to complain? We've got an Austrian body builder film action hero running our state.

6. Funny, but I don't recall Franken getting a Senate seat because of his last name
He actually had to, ya know, work pretty damn hard for it. As opposed to Ms. Kennedy who merely had to make a few phone calls to become the frontrunner.

with that dry, monotone voice and humorless personality?

Edited to say... Hopefully that freudian slip comes true (about Franken winning!).

I like Caroline Kennedy. I admire her. I don't support her being appointed to the Senate. She wouldn't be considered were she not Caroline Kennedy. And gee, figure this one out, Franken ran for the senate. duh.

22. Your thread title is completely misleading
and potentially divisive, not that this place could possibly be any more divisive than it already is or anything.

I doubt very much there are Caroline Kennedy haters here. Maybe there are a few people jealous of her name, and maybe there are some who don't think she should get a shot at the Senate, but I doubt there are any people who hate her. She's done nothing to cause anyone to hate her, has she?
