As a non-New Yorker; I only have 2 criteria I think are important for Hillary's seat.
1. That Patterson appoints a solid Democrat. A good solid liberal.

2. That the person Patterson appoints will be able to hold the seat in the next election and others to come.

If the person meets those thresholds, I'll be perfectly happy. If its Caroline, Cuomo or even the guy who saved someone life by laying over him in the subway; as long as the person meets both of the above, I'm happy.

I think "qualifications" are like movable goalposts to some people. A person is qualified if you support them, un-qualified if you don't. We have had many "qualified" people lead us over a cliff these last 8 years. If the person displays the right knowledge, temperment and judgment; I think that is more important than whether they have been able to win a political office before. Remember both Palin and Blago somehow won elections.

2. It is her seat, she is still in the Senate
I certainly do not mean she owns the seat as property.

5.  Right on both criteria. My only concern about Kennedy is
what seems to be her shyness. If she can be an effective campaigner, I have no problem with her as senator.

8. she sure got over that this year...
she did canvassing, and was all over the campaign trail. I hope she moves to Mass, and runs for her Uncle's seat. I don't think we'd have any problem electing her here, or her filling her Uncle's seat if it were necessary. What a shame she was born in New York, her family is in New York, she has worked in New York, passed the bar in New York, and has lived in New York her entire life.

12.  I remember when the carpetbagger charge was levelrd at RFK.
he pointed out that he had spent much of his childhood living in the Bronx. Then with his characteristic shy grin and with a quick hand motion to sweep the hair out of his eyes, he would say, "of course, it was the Riverdale section of the Bronx, but the Bronx, nonetheless. I still miss him after all these years.

9. So what? What is so examplerary about those life time polls that
so impresses you?

Caroline offers new blood + old blood mixed together.

At least with her, you can bank on an honest, non-politicking, straight forward, sincere vote in the Senate...and would probably support our new President in trying to right this country.

I'll trade our "experienced" Feinstein for your "Kennedy" anyday!

Y'all acting spoiled considering that your last two Senators couldn't be relied upon for much, in terms of liberal voting records.

10. Being a Kennedy shouldn't disqualify her from being appointed
and holding a previous political office doesn't automatically make a candidate better than all the rest.

11.  I'm sure you've
read her bio, and know all about the various organizations she's been involved with, including the New York Education system. Too bad her name is Kennedy. Otherwise a Democrat might actually appreciate her work.
