3. I'd be happy if they get arrested and go to jail
I've started to accept the fact that some asshole is going to try to ruin the day. I don't think they will actually ruin it though, just make themselves look like an ass and hurt whatever cause they are trying to represent.

13. Yeah, I did
One of the few people here who were saying that. That was an attack on the President of the United States. Just because I hate Bush doesn't make that okay. The Warren one would actually not be as bad as this in my opinion.

28. Bush destroyed the man's country.
His actions were those of a PATRIOT. As they would be if someone threw a shoe at the unelected drunken son of a bitch here for ruining THIS country.

4. Amused (everyone loves drama), but sad in a way. I don't want such a historic moment
to be ruined by a sideshow.

I HATE HATE HATE the fact that it will be Warren doing the invocation; but the fact remains that he will be PRAYING for our new president. Praying for his safety and for his success in governing this nation.

Let Warren self destruct on his own. We don't need to sink to his level to get our point across. Furthermore, I think it would seriously hurt liberal and gay groups if something like that were to occur.

9. I'm a little torn about it too, to tell you the truth.
I don't like it when people are rude.

But the thought of a nice pink platform shoe in the air has its appeal.

32. Maybe RuPaul's got an old pair laying around somewhere?
I hear s/he wears size 17 in Women's shoes. That should leave a nice mark in Warren's forehead. I imagine his reflexes aren't as fast as Chimpy's were.

30. Oh the irony...
but the fact remains that he will be PRAYING for our new president. Praying for his safety and for his success in governing this nation.

Am I alone to realize Warren will be praying for someone who will actively be working against many of the very policies Warren favors.

8. I voted for amused.
When I told my mom about the Warren thing, she said "Now there's a man who needs more shoes." Maybe not thrown at the Inauguration, but most definitely in his future.

16. Even if I'd get a chuckle out of it: saddened.
Because of the World Net Daily and Weekly Standard and NRO articles aaaallll about the daggone Liberal/gay/secular fascists trying to shut up religion. Not that I'm so concerned about what *they* say, but because it'll be dragged onto all the blogs I read, and the whole point will just end up lost in hand-wringing, outrage, poutrage, and whinging. From my little leftist/atheist corner, I'm not so much interested in shutting people like him up, as exposing what he's really saying so people can all the more thoroughly reject it once they've gotten around to seeing it for what it is.

(On the whole, one thing I note about the "elevation" of Warren in having him give the invocation is this: the highest point of a building is--the lightning rod. He is generally "popularly" seen as a mainstream megachurch best-selling author guy by people not paying close attention, because so much of what he's said has kind of gone under the radar. Will that really last with this kind of attention? It's made people both left and right--since the pro-life people are pretty honked-off about this too, I hear--take more notice. There's been a sort of Falwell-shaped hole in our greivance with the Religious Right. The choice Rick Warren will get is this: fill it, or become something better?)

21. It wouldn't have the same resonance...
you have to know and understand the cultural significance of shoes in Arabic culture. Having shoes thrown at you or being beaten with a shoe is the single biggest insult possible. A shoe thrown at Rick Warren comes across as derivative and untrue...kind of like when my 55 year old mother tries to talk "street".

24. Disgusted wouldn't be too strong of a word.
Obama inviting Warren is ridiculous and a slap in the face to many who worked their asses off to bestow this honor on Obama and I think he should change his mind. Warren's appearance has dampened the feeling of celebration and excitement I would have otherwise had and it irritates me to no end. Even more irritating is Obama's lack of compassion and empathy for those who have been hurt by his ill-advised choice. It reminds me too much of Bush's stubbornness.

But throwing a shoe at Warren would simply further serve to cheapen the event. Obama has already done enough damage. Even though Obama is not concerned enough to right his mistake it doesn't mean anyone else needs to take the event further down the rabbit hole.

I don't think anyone should protest or disrupt the event. Not for Obama's sake, but for the sake of those harmed by this. They will have more leverage in future discussions with Obama if they don't react in a disrespectful way. Because he will not have such an ill-advised incident to use against the gay and lesbian community as an excuse to further discount their concerns.

29. Not to mention...
Such a stunt would be catastrophic for the gay rights movement. It would be the death knell of any hope of gays making any progress anywhere for at least the next 4 years.

It would be on near continuous replay on all media outlets for at least a month and on FOX at least a year.
