Locals bear gifts for Obama

KAILUA, Hawaii – Some locals have gone out of their way to make the future first family feel welcome during their Hawaiian holiday vacation, most notably by trying to get gifts to the Obamas via the handful of staffers the president-elect brought with him to the island.

There was the three bean salad on Sunday. A man gave a helping off the vinegary kidney beans, green beans and wax beans concoction to an Obama aide who was waiting with reporters in the Olomana Golf Links club house while the president elect teed off.

A staff member for a news outlet in Honolulu contacted the president-elect’s aides this week to find out where she could drop off a memory blanket for the Obamas. An elderly woman who couldn’t be more excited about the president-elect being in town has tailgated Obama’s motorcade in her own car on and off since he arrived on Saturday.

On Tuesday a Navy officer on the military base where the president-elect works out gave one of Obama's press aides some gifts for her boss: a book about the first black naval officers, "The Golden Thirteen," a U.S.S. Lake Erie hat and a blue-and-gold Navy basketball jersey and warm-up.

1. I had to add that this lady and I would be on a mission together:
"An elderly woman who couldn’t be more excited about the president-elect being in town has tailgated Obama’s motorcade in her own car on and off since he arrived on Saturday."

I would have been arrested by now....still holding my resume in my hand! LOL

3. How about these 3300 kids? Turns out, it's not so easy to get anything to the Pres.

Even our electeds can't get anything to him. God bless him and his family.

5. I'm a bit confused by your post. I am glad that everything goes
through a process of some sort before the president gets it. I don't eat my neighbors food unless I've watched them prepare it so it's the thought that counts in most of these situations. I'm sure that the kids project will get to DC.

And you're right...God Please Bless the first family and the World for that matter.

:)

7. I can see how you might feel that way.
This was a giant project that grew by word of mouth from school to school, island to island, from one class to 3300 kids. Getting them to him was not an easy task.

I understand and appreciate why.

Aloha.

4. That's a cool pic of the motley
crew that make up "locals" on the Islands.

6. I'll bet the Secret Service is having fits!
Obama should not become encased in the iron maiden the Secret Service uses to keep our Presidents out of touch with the people. I am happy to see that he is still using a cell phone. Let Obama be Obama, and stay in touch with the people. We all know how rarefied the air is in the Beltway.

8. Hopefully he's not accepting any of them,
since one of his aids returned my letter of congratulations, along with the book on educational policy I sent him, with a note saying that Obama doesn't accept "gifts."

It wasn't a gift; it was published information about policy.

They didn't even keep the letter.

If a letter can't be accepted, or a book on policy, then I sure as hell hope the other "gifts" are off-limits, too.
