So, I am visiting Chicago this week -- talk about Obamamania
Edited on Fri Dec-26-08 04:49 PM by LuckyTheDog
One might say that Chicago (particularly the Hyde Park neighborhood) is pretty much Obama country. Sure, you say... I expect that to be the case.

But trust me... you don't appreciate just HOW Obama-ized it is here unless you visit. Wow. Banners line the streets. Obama merchandise lines the shelves at Walgreen's. It's intense.

If there are any McCain supporters in Hyde Park, they are laying low.

4. I wonder how long people will leave up their Obama signs
I think some people will keep them up for four years or until they disintegrate.

6. Mine is still up in Wisconsin--its frozen in the ground now.
Currently I am in a suburb of Chicago and I haven't noticed anything unusual about Obama or even any merchandise in the Walgreens here.

13. All of ours are still up.
As are a lot of signs in Philly. We figure we'll un-tape the yard sign from the deck railing on January 21st. The window signs will probably stay a bit longer.

I can't believe our property manager hasn't said a word about the sign on the railing. It's been there since November 5th and it's taped up with half a roll of blue painter's tape and facing the street! He's a staunch Obama supporter though, so I imagine he enjoys looking at it when he walks by. :3

5. You shoulda been there for his winning speach!
It was a very moving experience, and I took a lot of video's and pics which turned out great!

On a side note if you are in the Hyde Park area you should take a visit to the Oriental Institute.

It is a small museum whose collections includes many artifacts from the palace of Sargon, one of the
first Assyrian kings. We're talking older than the pyramids here and absolutely stunning in craftsmanship
and size. Also there are quite a few Egyptian artifacts. The most interesting thing to me is their collection of artifacts tracing the invention of arithmetic and writing. Truly beautiful stuff here.

Best wishes and have a great time and a happy new year. If your back in town with some time to kill let me know
and I will set up a stunning Chicago experience, I like taking folks around.

Best,
Scuba

9. Yeah, I don't comment too much anymore.
My wife Babette won't let me!!! LOL (and totally untrue).

As you know DU has evolved into what many of us early members wanted it to, the best source of Liberal news extant. As such, and with so many members, I don't get the early scoop that much anymore!

Best wishes for warmth in New Jersey,
Scuba

15. I wish people would stop talking about Chicago
I grew up there and now I'm missing it bigtime again. Chicagoans never really leave it, in their heart it's always home.
